Posted By: Gr8_White_North A Question about the auction. - 12/03/11 02:09 AM
If i am interested in something in the auction and i have a limit of what i want to spend. Will the auction site increase my bid in increments until my limit is reached or do i have to sit at my computer and increase my bid each time the bid goes up. Say i have a limit of 900 dollars, and the current bid is 750.00, if i place a bid of 900.00 does the bid go from 750.00 right up to 900.00 ?

My understanding is that it will operate like eBay, and will increase the bid in increments which should be cited in the auction listing. I would however test this with a smaller bid than $900.

i would hope it is like ebay, like you say i guess i should just try with a smaller bid. I am a hangback bidder and dont want to cause any undue bidding lol. On ebay i snipe when i really want something. Ill give it a go and report back i guess

So i tried it and it did increase the bid by 10.00 though i bid 20.00 . it has funny wording when you commit to the bid.( "By clicking the button below, you commit to pay the full 900.00 USD thus buying the item from the seller if you are the winning bidder") I interpret this to mean even if the winning bid is 750.00 i would still pay the full 900.00 at the end of auction.
i looked for more info but their auction information is lacking.

I would write to Axiom for clarification well in advance of the ending time, just so you can feel confident to bid with gusto! smile

I got my VP180 for the starting bid price, which was below the "Buy it now" price. It helped that noone else bidded.

Okay . . . I'm no mathlete, but here is the explanation Brent just gave me and I think it will make sense to the mathletes in the crowd:

When a user places a bid, it will only go up to the next bid increment, unless someone else bids and then it will go up to the next increment unless it exceeds the users maximum bid.

Let's say an item is listed at $250. Bidder "A" places a bid for $270. The bid increment is $2.50 for this price range, so the bid for the item will only go up to $252.50. Now bidder "B" places a bid for $260. It is not enough to beat bidder "A"s maximum bid so bidder "B" receives the notice that you have just received, and the item price will go to $262.50.

This system is called proxy bidding and it lets bidders comfortably place their maximum bid and not have to keep watching the auction to see if they are outbid, while only paying the lowest amount possible.

You can view the bid increments table here:

https://deals.axiomaudio.com/viewfaqs.php?cat=3#12 https://deals.axiomaudio.com/viewfaqs.php?cat=3#12

I hope this all makes sense and isn't too confusing!

Amie, if something is on the auction site, and you don't want to bother with the "auction" and it is a Axiom seller product with a buy it now price listed, can you just call Brent/JC and buy the item?

I ask because i am waiting for an EP600 to show up...
Posted By: Ken.C Re: A Question about the auction. - 12/03/11 05:20 PM
Why not just click "Buy now?"
Posted By: dakkon Re: A Question about the auction. - 12/03/11 05:25 PM
Id rather talk to Brent or JC.
Posted By: Amie Re: A Question about the auction. - 12/03/11 05:42 PM
Yes, you can absolutely call the guys and they can remove it from the auction if you buy it on the phone.
Posted By: Gr8_White_North Re: A Question about the auction. - 12/03/11 10:56 PM

AMIE - "Let's say an item is listed at $250.

Me -Would bidder A not automatically drive the bid up past bidder B's maximum bid automatically. ??

it should, that is the way Ebay works, as do most other auction sites.
Posted By: Gr8_White_North Re: A Question about the auction. - 12/03/11 11:03 PM
According to ebay's definition of proxy bidding , i should recieve a notification that i have been outbid if my maximum bid is lower than someone elses.

alright i got this figured now thanks for all the input. If i go to my account setting the auction i am watching will turn yellow if i am outbid. I have used ebay for years but i use a sniping program ( dont hate the player hate the game lol) which does essentially the same as ebay proxy but does it in the dying seconds of the auction .

Thanks to everyone who walked me through this. I am now the proud owner of a set of M80 v2's. Now for the waiting game. They have a long way to come.

They will be at your door before you know it.

you might even get lucky and be eligible for the free expedited air.. I would call Brent/JC and bug them about that first thing in the AM, see what wonders they may be able to work smile

Everyone is glad to help. Incidentally, I recently saw a travel documentary on Whitehorse, and quite frankly, the place blew me away. It certainly isn't this out in the middle of nowhere town in the north where nobody lives. It is growing, modern and self sustaining with a number of tax advantages for living there that really aren't available anywhere else in the country or even on the continent! Apparently a lot of people from the south are moving there to get away from the rat race and see the outdoors and breathtaking scenery as well as experiencing it all too.

I saw a festival there going on in the summer in which the sun was up tons of people were milling about and it was after 11PM! The only problem is, all this was taking place in the summer. What is it like in the winter time during those months when the sun never really makes it too much beyond the horizon? Interesting, to say the least.

yeah its everything i moved away from 15yrs ago and now a huge housing shortage. Really a shame ,used to be a great place to live. Now the tree hugger and bitchers come here and complain about everything and whine about the snowmobiles and plug up the roads which were never built for the traffic . And you cant camp anymore cause its over crowded. Personally i wish they wouldnt do all the advertising. There is only about 3 months when the dark could bother you and i am so used to it i dont even notice. Not a great place if the cold bothers you or not into the outdoors in some way. Also they are trying to take away those take advantages, which will really suck . This may sound bad to some but i feel strongly about this, i did not move here for modern amenities.May have to move farther north lol

I'm still wishing I lived on a tropical island.

Yep, no doubt about it, as someone so aptly said long ago, "never underestimate the limitless nature of human stupidity". As with any of these pristine areas, ironically, the very people who go to these places to allegedly cherish the surroundings end up screwing it up negating the very reason why they went there to begin with. With growth comes issues. Too bad, but no matter where it is, it just seems to continually happen that way, some humans just can't seem to leave well enough alone.

Some days it can really feel that way. But most of us that live here understand , the road is long and not too freindly. We had rain yesterday morning early, and by 10 am we had snow coming . We now have 8 inches worth- took 3 hours to clear my driveway with a snow blower last nite. I can only imagine what the truckers are dealing with.

I know that no one would see this coming, but that was actually a legitimate question.

Just the other day, I was talking with a customer that does online catalog sales. They were looking at getting into interactive chat and a Skype gateway to "assist their buyers with questions" a.k.a. "lead them to pressing the buy button instead of putting stuff in their cart then leaving."

Pretty sure they are targeting Mark. King of the giant Amazon cart.

PS
Any of you IT geeks ever put in a Skype gateway? It's a new one for me.
