SO just wonderingif the VP160 is a good centre for the M80. room is 12x19x7 and I am sitting about 11 ft from the front.

Sure it is Troy, and the vertical T/M configuration helps provide a wide horizontal dispersion. Note that the Axiom product page for the VP160 states that the VP160 "...is the best center channel speaker for our award-winning M60 floor standing speakers as well as any other speakers in our tower lineup".

yes, I see that one the VP160 page but, if I remember correctly the VP160 came out before the 180 and they don't update there pages a lot,

my theatre room is basically me centred and 11ft away I will have 4.75ft behind me the the rear wall.

I would look at your front wall situation (width, height, ex.) and compare to the dimensions of each center. Go with what meets your budget and looks pleasing in the room. I think either are great options, since you already have m80's, maybe that will determine what works. I suppose the 180 is more of a match to 80s, but that is just a hunch. I love my 180, but never heard a 160. My front wall is 15ft wide if that helps. I am using Axiom's 180 stand below my screen.

I will have a 64" Plasma TV. I sit 10-11ft away from the front, Anything bigger is just too big, I think.

With your receiver set to small you likely don't benefit from the additional LF available on the m80/vp180. Unless you plan to experiment with changing it just get the vp160.

pretty well pointless to go the extra for the VP180 when I am not going to be able to utilize the extra LF.

Kinda thinking I may just leave the M80's upstairs and rethink this home theatre situation. A nice Martin Logan decent would make a perfect 2.1 music only system

M60's, VP160, and dual subs. But, now I am back to thinking if I am not going to be using information below 80hz or 60hz with my mains I may as well go back to a great quality bookshelf system and dual subs.

M22s + 2 Velo 10" subs as stands work perfectly for me in my HT.

More capable subs would even be better but I feel no need for that in my medium sized room...

If you are cranking up the system to reference levels(with m80s and qs8s), is it worth it to go for the vp180 based on the wattage alone? I see it says the vp160 is 200 watts and is 6 or 8 ohm.

I guess my line of thinking is that if my mains are 400 watt and my rears are 400 watt, shouldnt my center...ideally...be too?

I understand how sensitive the speakers are. I'm just hypotheticall asking, in a perfect world, isnt the vp180 a better match?

Those wattage ratings on speakers really don't matter much, IMO. If you're actually pushing those kinds of peaks, you'll damage your hearing anyway. And any differences in sensitivity will be mitigated by system setup.

Well I do enjoy ear damage levels. So with that in mind...still no reason to choose vp180 over the 160?

I like that I can accomodate the vp160 easier and I like the idea of better off axis listening. But I want to know it can keep up to the axiom big boys at ear bleeding levels

The VP160 is an extremely capable speaker and, believe me, it's pretty damn big already.

Nope just a comfortable level. Same as in a movie theatre.

Thinking more so the M22 and VP150 or 160 and QS8's

I have M60's, a VP160 and two EP500's in my HT. I have no complaints and find the combination very adequate. I am limited in area, so these speakers were the most obvious choice to me. I was using M80's for the R/L. The M60's have a slightly warmer high end than the M80's. I didn't notice a loss in the lower frequency response area. I suspect the differences I am hearing is due to the M80's being a Ti version and the M60's being V3's.

If i get back to Ontario around Dwight, i would certainly love to hear this comparison.
I did get a chance to hear the new M80 v3, but not side by side.

We still run the resistor on our older M60Ti.

That can be quite loud, actually. My wife wanted to crawl under the seats from embarrassment, but I brought my sound meter to a theater in Louisiana and peak levels were 110+ dB and the quietest moments (where there was still sound) was in the mid-80's, iirc. If it was a work place, OSHA would have issued a citation. (Yes, I know it's a workplace for the employees there, but they don't sit through the movie typically)

I have a VP180 with LFRs up front and it is excellent. In fact I hope there will be an M100-equivalent centre version announced someday to better match the LFRs! But I run all my front speakers - including the VP180 - full range.

yes, I would love to go full range ,but then I get no LFE to the subs ;(
