Received my upgraded M80v4 High Power speakers today. yeah!

WAIT, WHAT?!? HOLES?! I can directly feel the speakers, a few of the holes went between the foam blocks mounted on cardboard.





... 1/2 hour later, unboxing, mumbling, cursing

whew. The speakers are unscathed.

One big hole went through the rear / bottom of the box, and it doesn't appear the speaker itself was touched.

As for the other speaker, the hole was bottom / front, right in front of the bottom woofer.

Through sheer dumb luck, the woofer is ok. Whatever went through the box, went in far enough to go past the foam block, ripped a small hole in the speaker cover, but didn't get to the woofer.

I haven't played them yet, but man, this was not the new speaker, out of box experience I was looking forward to.

Now I need a drink, exhale, chill out before enjoying my new speakers!

I would still notify Axiom, they have a Fed Ex Rep they can contact for review. I had to do the same back when Fed Ex ran over my EP500 replacment amp crate with a jet.

Yep, I emailed Debbie / Brent as well. At minimum, I need new boxes, these are trashed. Besides the holes, they're just all beat up and soft.

The speakers are singing, they sound fine. More than fine. I need to post impressions on the larger M80v4 thread.

It's always a shock how much abuse the shippers manage to apply.

IIRC one of my M60s arrived like that -- one box looked like it had been used for sword and club practice while the other was pristine, like it had been carried from Dwight by angels. Sounded fine but heartbreaking when you first see the box.

When you say "speaker cover" do you mean the bag protecting the speaker or the actual speaker grill ?

Yep - whatever punched through the box went through the cardboard, past the foam blocks, through the plastic bag speaker cover, then through the actual magnetically attached speaker grill.

There is a 2mm x 3mm hole in the grill. Thinking of how close whatever it was came to hitting my actual woofer...

Truth is, I'd rather replace the driver than deal with shipping the speaker back because of damage to the cabinet / vinyl / veneer.

The double-boxing system that Axiom uses seems to be pretty effective at letting the speaker itself survive shipping....if not the box.
