Well, you guys convinced me. Only a group with this level of enthusiasm could convince me to order buy speakers without hearing them first. My M60s should be here by the end of the week.

I'm hoping for a drastic improvement over the Bose 201s I'm currently using up front. Hopefully the M60s will still sound good with my modest Sony DD receiver (STR DE-825). It's about 5 years old, and was somewhat entry level at the time. I've been happy with it, but haven't really tested it's sonic limitations.

I'll probably try out some other speakers in the same price range during my 30 day trial period, but I have a feeling I'll be hanging on to the Axioms.

Keep up the great discussions!

Hi Badger

I think you're gonna love those M60s. The Sony may not be up to the job of adequately driving them. Check ratesvac for comparisons between real world output and rated outputs of various receivers. http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Hollow/3401/ratevsac.htm

I have a Sony STRDB1070, rated at 100 watts x 6 channels. I thought it sounded pretty weak. Ratesvac tested this receiver as really putting out only 31 watts per channel. I think the STR DE-825 puts out less power than the 1070.

I'm driving my M60s with a Sony STR-DE835 and the speakers sound great. I don't doubt that they'll sound even better when I get around to upgrading the receiver, but lack of power is not a concern in my smallish room.

Welcome, Scott(an Ohio badger?). I'm sure that you'll enjoy the M60s; the 825 should have plenty of power to drive them. The only reason in my view to possibly consider another receiver would be if you wanted to update the somewhat dated features.

You are lucky to have such a short waiting period !! I had to wait over a month to get my speakers. But it was well worth it.

I went from Bose 301's to M22's and M60's. Huge improvement. In fact - no comparison. It took a little while to get accustomed (tuning my ears) to the new sound but my listening hours have doubled / tripled since I got my Axioms.

I used to watch several movies a week when I got my setup. But now it is mostly music and an occassional movie every 2 weeks or so.

Cheers !

Good input already.

Yes, an Ohio badger--Wisconsin born and raised, and attended UW. Took a job in Cinci, though, and like it here a lot.

Regarding Mahesh's post... Maybe I'm a bit presumptuous. My understanding was that the speakers shipped quickly after order, and were shipped FedEx 2-day. Maybe I'll be waiting a little longer than I thought. We'll see.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys.

Scott

That's what I guessed, Scott. Since Mahesh is in Hong Kong it takes a wee bit longer.

Cool. Good to hear we've got another bose basher in the making lol.

Im sure you really going to enjoy your new speakers. But be carefull because before ya know it your gonna wanna upgrade that reciever. Its a disease.... everyone gets it.
Posted By: 2x6spds Re: The Countdown Begins - 10/30/03 04:32 AM
It's not a disease, he needs a new receiver! Really, it's not a disease, no matter what the wife says! OK, so maybe it's like an anomaly or something. But I'm pretty sure it's not a real disease.
Posted By: Haoleb Re: The Countdown Begins - 10/30/03 05:22 AM
yes he does need a new reciever to really take advantage of the Axioms..

Then it becomes a disease..

Im currently recovering however... It is beatable.

Yes it is a disease.

It's called "upgraditus" and nearly everyone that starts buying nice equipment comes down with it. Those M60's put in in the high risk group!

I started with the simple plan of upgrading my center channel speaker. That turned into a VP150 and a pair of M22's. The VP150 and M22's lead to a switch from an Onkyo Integra receiver to Rotel separates. The Rotel gear then lead to upgrading the M22's for M60's. That lead to a second amp for 7.1. 7.1 lead to QS8 surrounds and M2i rears. Since I've gone this far, I'm not stopping until EVERYTHING has been upgraded. That leaves a new TV and DVD player. At that point I think my upgraditus should start going into remission.

I'm hoping that my remission lasts at least until Hsu comes out with a new "flagship" subwoofer.

Upgraditus. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I just upgraded to a Yamaha RX-V1400 (DPLIIx patch has already been applied to all Asian units) last week itself.

I had originally planned on getting the Pioneer 45TX equivalent but there were no goods in Hong Kong since over 3 weeks.

I picked up the Yamaha whilst in Singapore last week for USD 622.00. It will only be released in Hong Kong around mid/November but I am sure the price will be atleast a hundred US dollars more in HK.

Enjoying the much needed features that were lacking from my previous Yamaha - YPAO, DPLII & DPLIIx, powered Zone 2, better ADC/DAC's, S-Video to Component upconversion.

Compared to my old RX-V2095, I find the bass very tight on the RX-V1400. It could be YPAO's magic. It certainly brought down the 63Hz & 100 Hz frequencies in my room during Auto Setup.

Still playing with it and hope to post more on this soon.

Trust me, I have the bug too. After getting married and buying a condo this summer, though, I'm being forced to curb my A/V appetite a little bit. Ah, what am I saying, I did find a way to get a Mitsubishi widescreen this summer.

Anyway, a matching center would have to come before a new receiver. I hope to live with the receiver until it dies, but I've said that before.

well, just incase it lasts another 20 years, speed the process up a bit by pouring some sand through the top vents and hooking all of the speaker outputs together and just for good measure, jury rig it up so youve got it plugged into the dryer outlet

:-D
