I know with a lot of electronics it's important to buy with a factory warranty from an authorized dealer. However, I was eyeballing a Denon DCM-380 to fill my wifes requirements for a multi-disc CD player and I happened to find one at a pretty good price. I checked their authorized dealers and they all want the MSRP $299. I could get it quite a bit cheaper through other avenues but I wasn't sure if it's worth the "risk".

I think warranty is only one year on parts and labor anyway.

Also, if anyone has an opinion on this player or would consider it a "mistake" at any price point that would be helpful too!

As usual, thanks!

Nick, i've got a $100 cdp, a $350 dvdp and 2 others around the house. With the exception of truly older equipment, there is no difference in quality between them. Most modern DACs are so good that perception of differences is extraordinarily arguable.

That being said, a decent name brand is still something i look for (no Megron Future Shop special cdp for me thank you, give me a Sony or Panasonic instead).
Warranties are always an individual thing. I"ve bought a couple of electronics from sources such as Audiogon without any real issues while others i know have been given bad stuff.
Try to research your source before buying. Look for good feedback or reviews from many others about them first.

www.ecost.com is an authorized refurbished dealer. You can get that cd player for under $100 shipped.

Hmm...I don't see the 380 (only the 280) listed on that site currently, but I'll keep that in mind. That would be an even better way to save some $$.

Ug, it was there a week ago. I picked it up for $89.95(or there abouts) shipped. The 280 is most likely just as good. They only real difference are the DAC's and HDCD support(no biggy), but the 280's are not bad to begin with, and are at a great price there, too.

How are you liking it? Performing as expected? It seemed like unless I was going to get hardcore with a Rotel CD changer or something there didn't seem to be much difference between one or another. Just curious if you've been happy (smart remote layout, looks, functionality, etc).

I do not use the remote for it, I use my all in one. The remote is like most Deonon's; basic, but has everything that is needed. Actually, they are no where near as ugly as I think the majority of their remotes are. I hate the yellow and orange colors they put in many of their receiver remotes.

Sound quality is like most CD players. I am using the digital out for everything but MP3's, so it will sound like most every other cd player if using the digital out. Using analog, they are much more clear and crisp sounding than my old Technics 5 disc(shut up, stop laughing, it's was college left over that I had fun destroying after I got this Denon).

For the price, it was a great buy. I had put aside $100 for a new 5 disc changer, and almost got a sony/panasonic/pioneer/whatever is on special at BB. Glad I didn't. For cheaper(no tax or shipping charges), I got a cd player that most likely adds very little overall, but is of a much better build quality.

BTW, here is a link to their CD player's:

The 280 is a great deal at around $50.00.
