Just received my Axiom order (M22Ti Fronts, VT100 center and QS 8 rears). I have hooked up the M22's and love them!

Now I am faced with the prospect of mounting the QS8's to my wall's. Naturally there is not a stud where I need it. My options are:

1) Open up the walls and add necessary horizontal and vertical studs

2) Attach some Cherry 1/2 in. ply to the walls, and either stain to match speakers or paint to match walls.

What would/have you done to mount your QS 8's

I like the Cherry ply idea. That seems functional and as long as you do a good job I don't think it would affect sound.

However one of the audiophiles will have to advise you on that. I'm just here for practical advice

Aren't there some sort of drywall anchors you can use? The speakers only weigh 11 lbs, and there are at least 5 holes in the bracket, that means each screw only has to support about 2 lbs.

Use the wall anchors, they have a high shear strength and can easily hold an 11 lb weight.

Hi boat,
I think I emailed you about this. Drywall anchors, those little plastic things you sink into a hole you drill in the drywall, then you put in the screw, and it expands the plastic drywall anchor. They work fine. Years ago, I used those to wall-mount a heavy pair of surround speakers in a house I owned. They were much heavier than the QS8s. Your plan for the cherry is a nice idea, but it isn't necessary. Glad you like your M22ti's.

Yep...I used 4 or 5 drywall anchors to mount my QS8's. It worked like a charm. They're held VERY solidly. The QS8 mounts flush to the wall, so there is little pressure pulling on the mount points.

I tried using drywall anchors to mount my M2i's with the FMB, and that was a disaster. The FMB puts the speakers about 4" out from the wall, so all the weight is really pulling down on the top anchors. They pulled right out.

So...moral of the story? Drywall anchors and flush mounting QS8's good...with FMB - bad.

QS-8s mounted on the wall or on stands? Whis is better?

Mounting on the wall keeps them out of the way, and you don't have unruly stands taking up space in your room. Given the choice, I'd wall mount them. I think the stands are usually only used by people who don't have a wall to mount to.

Wall... Much better placement options.. Puts the sound up where it belongs..

Thanks for all the replies.

For the purpose of completeness, I mounted the QS8's using #8 ZIP-IT anchors (self tapping, screw in plastic wall shields, then metal screw). Using this setup, the QS8's are rock solid, and flush to the wall.

Once again, thanks for the help

I used some oak I had laying around and mouted that to the wall, then the QS-8's. These things don't move at all.

Here's a few pics.
