I recently purchased a pair of M2is (new, not B stock) and one of them seems to have a woofer that is slightly dented from behind. It doesn't seem to have any effect on sound quality that I can tell, but I'm worried that it may degrade with time. Will it actually be a problem or is it just cosmetic?

(sorry about the poor pictures, my camera sucks)

Aside from the dented woofer (and a somewhat misleading shipping email), I am very pleased with the M2is and plan to purchase another set later this week to replace my Paradigm Titans.

from the looks of the woofer its more than just the scratch looking thing. also a bit wrinkled. if thats the word.

I would contact Axiom about it. ESPECIALLY if you got them NEW and not blemish. i dont see how that would happen in shipping. and i know they wouldnt send them out like that... Could you elaborate on the misleading email?

Hi 1madman1,

Call Joe Vassallo, Axiom's service manager, on the toll-free line on Monday and give him the details. It appears to be more than a cosmetic blemish.

Regards,

Well it was nothing really major, basicly the shipping notice email said that it was shipped via 2 day Fedex. But the package arrived 5 days later by Purolator. I suppose that also explains why I couldnt get the tracking number to work (wrong site). I understand Axiom only ships Purolator within Canada so I suppose it was just some sort of mix up with the shipping notice system.

does anyone know how that sort of blemish affects sound?
I have something similiar to that on my klipsch 4.1 which i am selling to a friend now that i have the axioms.
The circle in the middle of the woofer is slightly indented.
I cant tell if it makes a sound difference, but i was wondering..

Hi Hawkson,

The circle at the woofer's center is the dust cap, and normally if it gets indented, it does not affect performance or sound quality.

If the woofer cone were misaligned from a defect, it would negatively change performance. Even a serious ripple or unevenness in the cone surface might alter breakup characteristics. The cone must work as a piston, and remain stiff (ahem).

alan,

did you just make a funny?

Joe has informed me that he has sent out a replacement woofer. I presume it shouldnt be too hard to install. How does Axiom have the wires attached to the back of the speaker? If they are soldered on I will probably have to get a friend to solder it for me as I am amazingly bad at soldering.

Hi,

Er, yes. I don't know how to put those smiley faces in. And 1madman1, the internal speaker wires attach with clips, so no soldering required. Very easy.

That's ok. You can join my tiny club of people who don't use emoticons and only use ASCII smilies. We're a dying breed, my friend.

OK, sometimes I use emoticons. But it doesn't make me proud!

I recived my replacement woofer and managed to get it installed without issue. Unfortunately, the replacement woofer is of a slightly different (newer?) design and my M2's no longer visibly match . Aside from that, all is good.

Eenteresting. Looks like they changed the size of the surround.

is it just me or does the new one look dented on the outside part where the screws are in the bottom right side. id hope that was shipping damage and not something axiom sent ya. although it woulndt do anything to the sound.

Actually, upon closer inspection, the only thing that changed is the width of the material that sits over the outer rim. It just got narrower. The surround is identical.

Yup, I noticed it was dented just after I took the picture. Seems the package was dropped by the Purolator guys at some point. It was easy to bend back into shape though.
