Since this is entitled "Advice from Axiom Owners", I feel obligated to pass this information on:

I searched all resources I could find for a few weeks. I am not talking about a couple hours a night after work, but probably around 250 plus hours. My goal was to set up a audio/video set up that would be enjoyed for years to come. After all the painstaking research I purchased 46" Plasma, M60's, Q8'd, v150, Denon 3805, Denon 2200, SvS pb2 plus.

My advice to anyone one step behind me, is keep following down the Axiom path, BUT when you go home excited and share that with your significant other. When your overflowing with excitment and anticipation of delivery dates and dropping wires through walls ect. When the significant other asks, "What did all this cost?" DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, NO MATTER HOW CONFIDANT AND GOOD YOU FEEL...LET ME REINTERATE : DO NOT TELL THE TRUTH. Now I am not advocating lying, cause we all know honesty is the foundation of a good relationship. I'm thinking... not providing all the information may be good in this situation. I dont know for sure so... How did other Axiom owners handle it?

Now before you reply..beating your chest and bellowing out how your the king of your castle. My gear is still on order, I just cant sleep in the same room of the castle I used to

Well njoy, i hate to say this but...my wife bought the $3200 RPTV to go along with the $3400 of Axioms i purchased.
We split on the receiver.
Her priorities for good music were shared by my passion. There was really little or no discussion about $$ except for our upper limit. Even then i still went and purchased another 4k of speakers late last year.
The passion continues.

On the floor, LMAO!

I swear this forum is populated with more creative, articulate, funny people with a delightful sense of humor.

I'm not married, so I can't really give you advice based on personal experience. But, let me be the first to pass along what is generally considered, in these here parts, the proper wisdom for this sort of situation................................SELL THE WIFE!

That's funny, njoy. She'll get over it - eventually.

My wife wasn't wildly in favor of the cost of the new home theater, until she saw and heard it! The solution to your problem is after the gear arrives: set it up and play a DVD movie that she'll really like. You'll have the run of the castle again.

I'm telling you guys--separate bank accounts! Solves everything. Except I have to wait a long time between purchases... Hmmm...
Posted By: aquashankar Re: Beware new Axiom Owners - 04/22/04 01:00 PM
I really didn't have such an issue at all. My wife just said that if it made me happy, then I should just purchase my M3s, and that would make her happy to see my happy.

But then, when the speakers came, she was genuinely happy for me and herself.

And then we all lived happily ever after....

i am with aquaman-

my wife knew how bad i wanted a HT, so she said "DO IT", and so i did it.. her main concern was having those "big ole' black speakers in my living room".. but once she saw that they were smaller than the ones i already have, and she got to pick out the custom cabinet color, she was OK with it.

and like aquamans wife, she knows how happy this will/has made me, and she likes to see me happy. i know once the speakers get here, and i get everything set-up and running, she is gonna be blown away.. she already said she wants to start having her girlfriends over for 'movie night'.. i guess thats when i will go play poker with the boys.

Ahhhh...I love being single!

I admittedly fudged numbers to get the WAF in the positive end of the spectrum. My wife was more miffed about the size of the M60's than the cost. I made her sit in the "sweet spot" and put on Episode II and she saw why I wanted them

Don't get me wrong I have done some appeasing to:

Panasonic wide screen for me = Lexus GX470 for her
Axiom m60's, vp150, qs8s, ep350 = New back yard for her
and just recently: Denon AVR3801, DVD2200, DCM380 = new tile and granite counter tops for her.

Yes, the monitary cost is significantly higher on her end but the price of peace is worth it.

Let me get this straight. You get a widescreen and she gets a Lexus?

He's got domain over the gameroom and all that goes in it, I get the living/HT room. As long as the bills keep getting paid, everything is good.

Though "upgrading" is getting harder and harder. He understood buying a new system. I'd had that one for about 10 years. Swapping my 656A dvd player for the 563A universal player raised an eyebrow though.

Posted By: steveo3818 Re: Beware new Axiom Owners - 04/22/04 09:47 PM
Yeah, crazy trade-offs I have made but I do drive the Lexus and all these "upgrades" for my wife were something that was going to be done anyway. It's just that the time-table has been accellerated! The key is making her think that I "gave" these things to her for my purchases!

It has been said that Axioms are worth more than the price one pays for them ( I have definitely proved that )

One of the other foundations is communciation. I guess I don't have these problems because we would talk about it before either of us would make a purchase that large.

The separate accounts along with the joint account can help as well.

Sell the wife.

I've thought about it on many occasions but keeping her around is much less costly than a divorce!

Sounds like someone's been watching a lot of HGTV, steveo!

Been there done it. I've even tried the line, "Honey, the sub came free with the speakers..." I was foiled when she asked me why they were two different brands. Now again, telling the truth is key, but come on guys a little white lie cannot hurt that much. I got a sub out of the fact that the old one (2yrs old) "Blew" so I was justified on getting a new one. At least could hear the "problem" with the sub.

Hell, I make 3x what my wife makes so in my mind I get 3x the toys.

***In 10 seconds this message will destroy itself and all knowledge of it will be met with a blank face.***

Coming Honey. What you want your feet rubbed...Sure not a problem.

My standard line is "Don't worry honey I will only have it for a few months and I will sell it for more then I paid"..................yeah right but it seems to work!

njoy, what worked for me was to turn it into our Christmas gift to each other. It worked out well because she wanted a new TV so we got the whole home theater set-up. This works on multiple levels: 1) It is, after all, your Christmas gift so you should be able to get what you want, 2) It is also a gift for her, so the more you spend the more it looks like you are spending on her, and 3) You don't have to spend the holiday season wandering the malls wondering what she would like and hoping that you can stumble on something that will make her happy when she opens it Christmas morning - instead you spend the holiday season going to cool audio/electronics stores and checking out the stuff.

Diamonds usually fit pretty well into your desired scenario.

Another option (if your diamond fund is depleted or earmarked for future upgrades) is to do what I've seen a lot of folks around here do when they're selling their home. The include their "media room equipment" with the house - usually claiming a "value" of $20,000 to $30,000. You can easily justify your expediture (and sound judgement/fiscal responsibility) by the potential windfall you receive when you sell your home. Your potential buyers will be able to audition your set up - be blown away - and fund your future and upgraded system.

Kudos to your investment skills !!

Great humorous story At first my wife was not thrilled when I told her I was going to convert part of our basement into a HT. I bought the Sanyo Z2 before I had the basement finished so we just beamed the imaged on one of our white textured walls temporarily. Once we started watching movies at 110" - 120" diag. she started to realize how cool this might be....jump into the future a few months, my Axioms arrive next week, I already have the Denon 2805, and the basement still is not down Anyway, now that the wife is starting to understand how awesome this is going to be when done, she doesn't seem as bothered about the money.

Heck, one trick that worked for me is that I originally told her I wanted B&W's but when I mentioned I can buy a pair of m60's for less then the price of one B&W, she said "go for it".

bigjohn, my guess is that you want no part of that. As soon as Steveo saw you in the requisite high heels and fishnet stockings he would start running around aimlessly screaming "MY EYES!! MY EYES!! I CAN'T SEE!! WHAT HAPPENED TO MY EYES!!" and the deal would be off...

Your setup is close to mine (minus the plasma, damn you)... M60's, VP150, QS8's, PB2-Plus, Denon 3805... Denon 3910 coming soon ....

It's amazing what you can get in college with a summer job! Please don't hate me

My exgf (NO THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SPEAKERS YOU SAVAGES!) Hasn't heard them yet...she'll probably just complain they're loud .... Although my possible future girlfriend (we'll see) is a movie nut, so hopefully she'll like

Althought we live modestly in most facets of our lives, my lady convinced me to upgrade to the M60s over the M22s. I am one lucky guy.

Now that's a keeper.
Posted By: revmike Re: Beware new Axiom Owners - 09/13/04 05:21 PM
Since my wife is getting a new house along with a baby grand piano, the 50" plasma was her idea, money has yet to be an issue in regards to my up-coming HT costs.
