I cant seem to find any flatwire to wire my new QS8s. Where is a good spot to get some online? What guage is best to get also? Also by the sound of this next question you'll be able to tell I am a newbie. Once I do get this flatwire, am I supposed to connect it the same way that I would connect the traditional wires, and can flat wiring fit in bananna plugs? If not what is the best way to connect to the receiver? Once again thanks.

K, although there's some ultra-thin(and expensive) flat wire sold, something like this should be entirely adequate. You can make it fit into banana plugs, but unless you want the convenience because you're going to be frequently connecting and disconnecting, there's no good reason to use banana plugs. Use the bare wire ends.

I found mine on Ebay. Don't really remember exactly how much I paid, but it wasn't expensive.

Anyone know how easy (read: not messy, damaging) it is to remove the self adhesive stuff from painted walls? Apartment dwelling is just dandy, thanks!

Thanks to all of the replies. Would this wire be sufficient for on the wall wiring for the QS8s? I do not have carpeting in my apartment so I would be running the wire up near the ceiling then droping it down about a foot to connect to the speaker.

Yes, you can use that wire, but you should only use it for runs under 30 ft. I use a similar, but less expensive (30ft. $20) product made by Acoustic Research. Unfortunately, that company seems to have stopped manufacturing it, because I can't find it anywhere.

What I did was run my regular 12 gauge speaker wire, along my baseboards, mostly hidden by furniture. Then I ran the adhesive 18 gauge flat wire up the wall to my surround speakers, and connected the two wires with the TB18 connectors from 21st Century goods. Doing that allowed me to get a longer (and less expensive) run than I could have gotten with the flatwire alone. When painted to match the walls, it is very unobtrusive.

JohnK, resident knowledgeable electronics expert (& Cleveland Browns fan ) assured me that using only 6 ft. of the 18 gauge attached to a longer run of the 12 gauge would have no adverse effects on speaker or receiver. It made the effective gauge of the entire run something like 12.5 gauge, which is more than satisfactory.

Removing self-adhesive tape from painted walls = (depending on the integrity of the wall) chunks ripped off and/or peeled paint. I had to deal with this when we re-wired out office a few months ago. Luckily, the contractor that was removing a wall was kind enough to patch and paint the problem spots.
