Well, I couldn’t be happier. I just hooked up my new speakers (A Pair of M22ti’s, A Pair of QS 8’s, a VP 150 and the new EP 600 sub) I use a Klipsch for the rear center channel due to aesthetics, but am thinking of putting up a VP 100 back there so it will all match.

It is all hooked to a complete Sovereign system (VR-5900 Receiver, DV-5900 M 403 disc DVD changer, Entrée entertainment hub, Access remote portal) a Sony Plasma screen and Parasound amplifiers.

The sound is truly amazing. It’s hard to believe that this speaker system costs as little as it does. I am truly amazed by the EP 600. It not only SOUNDS great, it FEELS amazing too! I don’t miss my Canton speakers AT ALL! Thanks Brent for all your help!

Welcome Frank,

It sounds like you have yourself an impressive setup. Some pics would be nice, especially the Axiom sub .I think you are the first to have the EP600.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: My New System - 11/13/04 04:13 PM
Holy Crap! That sounds like an amazing system, and that's just the speakers. You're also the first person on the boards -- besides Amie, of course -- to own an EP600.

If I were the jealous type, I believe I'd be pulling out my hair right about now.

Pictures please!!!!!!
Posted By: lomb7 Re: My New System - 11/13/04 04:43 PM
You know, that is just not fair. New people should not have systems nicer then the old guys like me. I am going to have to ask that you calmly pack up your EP600 and ship it to San Diego for "testing". This testing may take days or it could take years. It is my goal to understand the EP600 in all it's glory. When I am done testing it I will be more then happy to return it to you with all my findings. As you know from reading through this site, older customers are there to support the newer people and this is what I will do for you. Please forward your address and when you will be at work so that I can "help" you with your sub issues. I will come in during the day so that you don't have to say goodbye to the 600. In it's place I will leave another sub that will get you by for the time being.

On a serios note, I would love to hear your set up. Let me know if you are open for an audition.

Have blast with that one.

Sir, I believe that I have registered over a year before you. Therefore, he should send the EP600 to Oakland. I don't know if you can call yourself an "old guy" if you've only been registered for 3 months with a total of 198 posts!

Oh, btw, LongBeachBear, welcome to the boards, and congrats on the system.
Posted By: curtis Re: My New System - 11/13/04 05:12 PM
Long Beach, California?

Where is spiff? There is an EP600 close to us!!
Posted By: Ken.C Re: My New System - 11/13/04 05:22 PM
What, you can't feel it from where you are?
Posted By: curtis Re: My New System - 11/13/04 05:55 PM
hehehehe....

its about sound quality...not output.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: My New System - 11/13/04 06:30 PM
With that monster, I would hope it would be about both.
Posted By: curtis Re: My New System - 11/13/04 06:40 PM
True...

But when properly calibrated, you only need so much.
Posted By: LongBeachBear Re: My New System - 11/13/04 07:06 PM
Ah, if I could only calibrate it. I really don't know very much about this equipment. Chances are I have it too loud, but I sure like a lot of bass!
Posted By: curtis Re: My New System - 11/13/04 07:14 PM
Ajax had a good link for calibration. With an inexpensive SPL meter...it is pretty easy.

Most people, when calibrating by ear, have the sub channel turned up as much as 10dB.
Posted By: Wid Re: My New System - 11/13/04 07:23 PM
Here is a link that Jack provided in another reply. Here is the other link that was posted by Jack (Ajax).
Posted By: LongBeachBear Re: My New System - 11/13/04 07:40 PM
Are there companies that will come out and calibrate your system FOR you?
Posted By: curtis Re: My New System - 11/13/04 07:50 PM
(now's my chance to hear the 600.....)

Heck....if you can wait a week or so....I could come out and help you with it. I live in Manhattan Beach.
Posted By: Wid Re: My New System - 11/13/04 07:58 PM
Now that is an offer that would be hard to refuse.

In reply to:

I'm sure there are, but they'll cost you a whole heluvalot more than buying a Radio Shack Analog, or Digital, Sound Pressure Level (SPL) Meter, and a calibration disk like [url=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/630551982X/103-8231176-2075006?v=glance]. It's not that complicated, and everybody here will be glad to help you learn how to do it. Knowing how will serve you well.

Thanks to Wid for posting the links. I'll add a couple more.

OOOOOOOOOOO! DEFINITELY Take Curtis up on that offer. But don't think he's just being a nice guy (which he is). He just wants to hear that EP600, and I don't blame him ONE BIT!
Posted By: Ajax Re: My New System - 11/13/04 08:15 PM
LongBeach, forgot to ask. Did you get the 600 in the vertical format, or the horizontal format?
Posted By: MykeW Re: My New System - 11/13/04 08:27 PM
Coooool LongBeachBear you've got one awesome system!

I'd suggest taking your time and calibrate it yourself. I've read recommendations to calibrate systems once every six months so if you can do it yourself you'll never wonder if things are just right. As Ajax says its not difficult, you learn alot, and will enjoy your system that much more!

One question, do you have your house properly anchored to the foundation...? If not I'd suggest you get it done, as that EP600 will cause your house to "walk" away.

Tell ya what, point your EP600 North and I'll point my EP500 South and we can generate our own Quakes along the western seaboard. Sound like fun?

Have a great time, Jag

Yea, I guess you are right. I think it would be nice to know how to properly run this system. Thanks for the advice and info.
Posted By: lomb7 Re: My New System - 11/13/04 09:29 PM
Ken, it's not the quantity of the posts it is the quality and from what I can tell, I've got you there.
Posted By: LongBeachBear Re: My New System - 11/13/04 09:30 PM
Vertical format
Posted By: LongBeachBear Re: My New System - 11/13/04 09:31 PM
Hey Now. We have enough "movement" out here. Hopefully I won't start a quake!
Posted By: lomb7 Re: My New System - 11/13/04 09:32 PM
LongBeachBear, I asked the same question some time ago because I'm a lazy SOB and paying someone just seemed a heck of a lot easier. Speaker set up is fairly easy with the help of the interesting crew around here and some will even help if you ask and supply free beer (see beer thread). Anyway, have fun with the 600.

Posted By: lomb7 Re: My New System - 11/13/04 09:33 PM
Up to 200 now Ken....in your face!

You mean you haven't read the User Warnings or the Disclaimer....?

Posted By: Ajax Re: My New System - 11/13/04 10:20 PM
Frank, you really should take Curtis up on his offer.

Curtis doesn't own Axioms. He's an unabashed Ascend and Hsu fan, and is completely honest about it. But he really enjoys this hobby, is an evenhanded, fair, courteous, helpful poster, who is a welcome contributor at just about every forum related to this hobby (I say "just about" every forum because I don't believe he posts at EVERY forum ). I've seen him recommend brands other than Ascend and Hsu when appropriate.

I know he would LOVE to put the 600 through it's paces, and I, for one, would like to hear what he has to say about it. You, on the other hand, would get a friendly, knowledgeable, "expert" to help you learn how to optimally set up your system (I put the word "expert" in quotes because I don't know if Curtis would like the burden that goes along with that term. I know I wouldn't. Fortunately, for me, no one would ever label me as one. )

Give it some thought, and PM Curtis if you'd like to avail yourself of his expertise.
Posted By: LongBeachBear Re: My New System - 11/13/04 10:26 PM
Yes, I did PM him today. Sounds like it would be a good experience. Thanks
Posted By: curtis Re: My New System - 11/13/04 11:08 PM
Just got back from watching spiff's "The Polar Express"....great movie!!

Anyways....I think LongBeach and I will try and hook up next week.
Posted By: Ajax Re: My New System - 11/13/04 11:30 PM
Superb. I've been looking forward to this movie, but I keep hearing mixed reviews. 'Course I won't be able to see it until it's released on DVD, but I'm glad you liked it.

Ditto superb. Curtis, don't blow his place up with that 600. I'll be eager to hear your thoughts.
Posted By: dmn23 Re: My New System - 11/14/04 01:58 AM
BASTARD!!!

...um, I mean "congratulations". Wow. Don't know where that came from...
Posted By: Ken.C Re: My New System - 11/14/04 02:01 AM
Your alleged quality is declining rapidly. Besides, you used the word old originally. Which would make Jack and Ray the whiners. I mean winners.

I have been a slacker of late but I will be getting back into the battle.

Ummm...I trump you by nearly two months...and besides, I can pick the EP600 up. No need for any shipping.

Wait a minute....January 10 2002....send that monster here!!!!!

I don't remember any current active member being here before me - either on the board, visiting Axiom (1990) or Axiom owner (1989).......

I can't wait for that to arrive!!! LOL

Anyway, enjoy!!!

I just wanted to send a public thank you to Curtis and Craig for coming to my house tonight to tune up my system. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It sounds great now.

Thank you guys once again. Next time I'll make some popcorn and we can watch a WHOLE movie...not just the loud parts!

Yes, thank you Frank for letting Curtis and I to stop by. Frank, you should start an OT thread about your cars! As cool as that EP600 was, your VW's are AMAZING!

Posted By: curtis Re: My New System - 11/24/04 07:49 AM
I will also say the kitchen was VERY nice too!

Curtis and Craig, would you share with us your thoughts on the ep600?

Thanks, Richeydog.
Posted By: spiffnme Re: My New System - 11/24/04 09:24 AM
To be completely honest it wouldn't be terribly fair. We went to Frank's house (a beautiful house I might add) to get his sub calibrated as best we could. Frank's HT setup is to say the least...challenging. His M22's are about 3-4' above ear level, his center channel is tucked behind the tv in a huge (again amazingly beautiful) custom built entertainment center, and he's in a room with at least 14' ceilings.

Franks major concern was that the EP600 sounded far too boomy for his tastes. (It was a simple level balancing issue) With me and my handy radio shack meter, and Curtis at the controls of the receiver we eliminated the boom and got the sub as integrated as best we could with the M22's without rearranging anything.

Many of us here have SAF to deal with, Frank has FAF - the Frank Acceptence Factor. He wants his tunes, but he doesn't want to fuss over it, and he doesn't want it dominating the room. Believe it or not, his living area was by no means dominated by the EP600. He's got a full grand piano in the room, an enormous entertainment center, and those huge ceilings. In fact, the EP600 was tucked quietly away in the corner with a nice little "privacy curtain" around it. You'd never even know it was in the room.

So...long story short. Frank's room is designed around how he want's it, not how his HT wants it. We had a good time listening to a few music tracks and a couple of movies scenes but we weren't there to give the sub any kind of test or work out.

Frank: Thanks again for letting us stop by. Nice house, nice cars, and nice guy.

Posted By: Ajax Re: My New System - 11/24/04 01:50 PM
Bravo Craig, Curtis, and Frank.

Frank, I'm so glad Craig and Curtis were able to "smooth' things out with your system. Although your setup does sound "challenging," I'd have been surprised if they couldn't improve it to some degree. Surprising what a little Shack SPL meter, and some calibration can do isn't it?

Frank, do you play that grand piano? I'm a former musician (guitar), and love the piano. Can't play one though.

Frank
Those are absolutely beautiful V.W.s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Curtis and Craig
Ya'll ever make it to the Dallas area?

The green one reminds me of a nice Porsche. Very nice Frank.
Posted By: LongBeachBear Re: My New System - 11/25/04 06:15 PM
Thanks for the kind words about my Beetles. The convertible is TOTALLY customized in every detail. I even made up the color myself. I am sure that with the suggestions made by Craig and Curtis, this stereo could be perfect (tilting the speakers down a bit so I could hear the tweeter, etc.) but I think it sounds great now. I really don't watch a lot of movies, but I do like to listen to loud, smooth music. At first, I really didn't think I liked the sub. It seemed WAAAAAY too loud, but after the "METER BOYS" left, it sounds WONDERFUL!

Maybe we can get together again and play with it more sometime if you guys are game. I can get some wedges of some sort to point the front speakers down a bit and see what that does to the overall sound.
Posted By: LongBeachBear Re: My New System - 11/25/04 06:19 PM
Hey there Ajax... Yes, I do play the piano.
