Hi,
I would appreciate any feedback anyone can give using the following receivers:
Yamaha RX-V2500
Harman Kardon AVR-7300

I've been reading a lot of review lately on both receiver and still can't decide. Seems like the Yamaha has a lot of support for different audio format and the HK has the Faroudja.

Does the Faroudja make any difference for audio? I thought this company chipset are only useful for enhancing the video and not audio??? If this is true, why have a Faroudja chip in the receiver when it is better server in a DVD player?

Any feedback from Axiom owners with a Yamaha and HK would be appreciated.

Speakers:
VP150
EP350
M60ti
QS8 + Stands

Thanks!

Sorry, I forgot to add one more receiver.

Denon AVR-3805

Thoughts and comments on these 3 receiver with Axiom speakers?

Movies: 50% (Sci-Fi, Action)
Audio: 50% (Mostly 80s Music and Pop/Rock) and will be buying a lot of SACD and DVD-Audio.

Is HDCD better or equivalent to SACD or DVD-Aduio

Thanks again!

Thanks!

Fvang, I believe the farouda chip is used for video purposes only. I *think* the harman kardon converts all composite and s-video to component video quality.

No. It's all video. The chip will look after the end video quality that hits your screen. This method on paper at least should actually improve the image of any signal sent in to it. This alone for me at least is a strong argument for the HK............and I own the 3805!

fvang,

The H/K 7300 will likely produce more actual power output than the Denon. H/Ks tend to be conservatively rated. The previous model, the 7200, had massive measured power output, considerably higher than its conservative rating.

Denon tends to exaggerate somewhat on their power output, but they are reasonably close.

Check out the remotes as well. H/Ks in the past tend to be annoying--I got used to mine-- and some Denons have tiny buttons that are not intuitively arranged, but no remote is perfect. Maybe H/K has improved the remote.

HDCD has nothing to do with SACD or DVD-Audio. HDCD is a kind of compander circuit mixed with a lot of hokum. If it's there, fine, but do not make a buying decision based on the presence of HDCD.

SACD and DVD-Audio are "hi-resolution" audio formats that, in theory, and in measurements, are superb, but resulting multi-channel mixes are wildly variable (Neil Young in the rear channels? Ridiculous..) and it's anyone's guess whether either will succeed commercially. One might survive as a niche format, but only time will tell.

Regards,

Hi,
Anyone have a Pioneer receiver that they used with Axiom speakers? I would appreciate any feedback from anyone. I couldn't find much review on this new receiver from Pioneer.
What I like about this receiver is that it has firewire support.

Thanks!

I have the VSX-1014Tx (Rebadged Elite 52Tx minus the RS-232C serial connection to computer, the 12 v trigger output, and the pretty "ElitE" badge). I find that it has MORE than enough power for my M60s (especially since I use the internal Bi-Amp feature to make the front essentially 2x220W and the other three channels 110W. I would imagine that the 56TXi would be even better due to the firewire support for digital transfer of hi-res audio and higher farad rating capacitors (for more peak power). Since I don't have an SACD or DVD-A player yet, I am happy with this thing for now. (It's a nice temporary until I get a hi-res multi-player.)
