I mistakenly bought the regular stands for my M22 - which puts the tweeters above ear level - which is not good.

I played around yesterday and put my M3s in front to further break them in (they've been used sparingly for Surround Backs in a 7.1 setup) - wow, I heard things I've never heard before from my Norah Jones CD. I've been missing out! Or maybe the M3s are just that good? I doubt it's better than the m22

So now I'm considering CUTTING my CSS2 stands to make the M22 tweeters lower. I hope I won't make a mess out of it...

Anybody else have this problem? What stands do you use for your M22s? A cinder block is the prefect height...but that would look fUgly!

Hi DallasAxiom,

You have the 24-inch stands. It may vary somewhat from one room to another as well as with your listening distance, but in most installations, using the 16-inch or 24-inch stands with the M22ti's only raises up (or lowers) the soundstage. I have found no significant difference in the transparency or quality of the sound using the two different stand heights. You may prefer the soundstage somewhat lower or higher up. Personally, I like the soundstage somewhat higher, which is what the 24-inch stands accomplish. If you use the speakers in a home theater installation, I also recommend you use higher stands to raise the main speakers to approximately the same height as the TV screen. You want the sonic image to be reasonably consistent with the visual image in a home theater setup.

The dispersion of the tweeter used in the M22ti and M3tis is sufficiently broad that the tweeters do not need to be exactly at your ear level. The spectral (tonal) balance of the M22ti and M3ti is somewhat different--it's been discussed in other threads at great length.

Regards,

I orignally used the 16" stands for my m22s, but the bottom end seemed somewhat congested to me, so I found a sale on some 22" stands locally. As Alan has stated it is up to your own personal preference, but I prefer the higher stands with mine, as well.

Thanks Alan - I guess I'll experiment with cinderblocks first before cutting my $80 stands

DA, rather than using the cinderblocks you might try the specially designed variable height stands(stacks of old Stereo Review magazines) I used when I first got my M22s. I found that about 18" is what I liked best(also that Stereo Review had a "warmer" sound than Time and Playboy).

I made my own stands using the M22 speaker as the template. They turned out wonderfully and are 16" high. Let me know your e-mail and I can send you pics. The longest part to making them was the stain and poli. time! lol Not long at all.
I am going to start making some QS8 stands to match as my new room does not have proper walls for wall mounting.

I second playing with some stacking as JohnK recommended. I have M22s on 16in stand. After reading through various posts on stand heights (and because I'm a sci/fi geek) I decided to play around with the height. So, 8 aproximately same thickness hardbound books later (4 on each stand) I have 24in stands and find I prefer it. Possibly placebo, but that's ok. It was free to try.

Stereo Review warmer than Playboy? Who would have thunk it?

For those actually using the Axiom stands, is it pretty stable? I have a toddler who probably won't touch it, she's been pretty good, but we have another on the way. I'm reconfiguring the living room and I'm considering stands. My biggest concern would be making sure it's quake-proof, since I'm in California.

I'm interested in these because they seem to be the only ones that clamp onto the speakers.

I bought a pair of Sanus 18" stands from the bargain bin at a local store for $50. I think they are usually $80. The top plate is 8 x 8, which fits the '22s fine. I just traced the edges of the '22s onto the top plate and got out the ol' circular saw. Next, just a light sanding, then painted the whole thing with Krylon for a uniform black. Now they look like they were made for the '22s. I chose 18" stands because I couldn't decide between 16" and 24" stands.
