Well ive logged a couple of hours with my 80-500 7.1 system and my sub (EP500) has a rattle when I get a long heavy base part in some movies. Star Wars Ep.2 when the queens ship is going to the planet in the first scene is when it happens the most. Has anyone had there sub rattle like this? and its not anything in the room its coming from the woofer. I know its very hard to know what I mean by rattle but its something if you heard it you would know.It has a very high freq. Any help would be great, thanks.

First of all, how do you have your sub setup? Volume on the sub/receiver, crossover, etc...

I had a rattle that I heard very rarely during certain very low frequencies on songs and certain LFE in movies, it appeared to start around 20hz. Put in a CD with lots of low bass, I used a George Straight CD that my wife had. Turn off the mains, so you only have the sub channel playing, this way it will be easier to isolate.

If I got down with my ears in front of the port, I could hear the vibration/rattle at times. I worked with Axiom, and verified all of the fasteners on the driver/amp/port were snug. Everything checked out fine. I noticed when I thumped on the amp plate with a closed fist, I could recreate the rattle. Axiom sent me a new amp and I was fine.

Long story short, do some basic troubleshooting, verify your settings, and call Axiom, they will work with you.

I am a little concerned though, this type of issue has come up with about 5 people that I can think of over the last few months. Axiom will make it right, whatever the issue...

Your EP 500 COULD have a rattle in it, mine did.

But, make sure everything in the house/area is secure. I mean check everything including doors, window pains, trim, crap on the window sills…..everything. I had an incredibly irritated rattle and checked everything, high and low. I swore it was the sub and couldn’t’ be anything else. Later, I just happened to be standing in the right spot at the right time and found the rattle. It was a door latch……

Then there was a second rattle. Drove me friggin bat-[censored]. Again, right place, right time and looking out through my window I discovered it. I have triple pain low-E argon filled windows. The middle pain was rattling against the inside pain. I couldn’t believe it.

Then there was a third rattle. Unfortunately, it was the the sub. It only happened between 75 and 85 hrtz when I tried a test disk.

While on the phone with Axiom, I asked about the upgrade policy………..I’ve got an EP600 now.

Now I have rattles downstairs……and that damn window pain (I’m waiting for it to break). I lost a glass globe (irreplaceable) off one of my chandelier lights in the dining area downstairs.

All my speakers are set to small and crossed @ 80, my sub is set to lfe and crossed @ 80 and bypass on sub. Volume @ about 7:30. I have done some reading and some say this sound is due to the driver bottoming out. It is 100% coming from the driver.

I won't be able to check SW II tonight, but this is not normal, my 500 does not do what you describe on movies with much more LFE than Star Wars. I've even run the test tones from real traps that start at 10hz and up in 1hz incremets at fairly loud dB's with no such noise.

The 500 won't bottom out, based on the DSP technology.

Boy, you haven't had alot of luck so far, I'm wondering if the delay had something to do with this.

I know im sure they will make it right and me happy. Second sub shipped on Friday and I got it on Monday, now this. I still have first sub and I asked it I can switch out driver and they said give it a shot. Im going to do some more looking around in the morning, maybe something is loose inside. Just wishing! If not im going to switch them.

If you get something like the Avia Guide To Home Theatre disc, there is a subwoofer calibration chapter that goes through a frequency sweep ... I found a rattle on a panel of the back of the TV at 43hz. Fortunately I was able to nip that little problem in the bud with a folded piece of heavy duty (high-tech anti-rattle) paper. Nobody looks behind the TV, right!

I did the LFE sweep and the rattle started at about 42 to 21 in the woofer, ok so I swapped out woofers from the sub I was sending back and guess what no rattle sounded great. Im glad I didnt send that other sub back yet. Im going to call and tell them what I did. It made me kind of mad this hole thing after spending almost 4k but it is a great system and the customer service is great. I think they might need to look at the shipping company alittle closer. Me thinks thats where the problem is. oh by the way there was a rattle - 3 houses down from me. hehe
