Very annoying to see new Axiom speakers being sold by a liquidator on Ebay. What not have a sale?
Posted By: bugbitten Re: Ebay Sales - 04/09/06 01:02 AM
Have you got a link for that?

My search didn't find any Axiom speakers. I'm interested to see what a VP150 sells for on ebay.
Posted By: HomeDad Re: Ebay Sales - 04/09/06 01:33 AM
Right here LINK
Posted By: ferguson630 Re: Ebay Sales - 04/09/06 01:36 AM
http://electronics.search.ebay.ca/axiom_Speakers

It's the canadian verson of ebay. Starting bid on V150 is $90 US, but the shipping is high.
Posted By: ratpack Re: Ebay Sales - 04/09/06 02:05 AM
Most interesting. I thought that I remembered seeing something, somewhere that Axiom did not resale units returned to them. Instead they were sold to employees. Guess that the employees have all they want.

Perhaps Alan will post what is going on???
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Ebay Sales - 04/09/06 02:11 AM
Since it is a company that deals in liquidation items I would guess they are stock from a retailer that sold Axioms in Canada. If only one person bids and gets them for the bid price, with shipping and insurance cost, there would be less than a $200 differance over Factory Store prices on a pair of M80s, and way less than that on the M60s or M50s.

Posted By: HomeDad Re: Ebay Sales - 04/09/06 05:00 AM
There seems to be no mention of how old these speakers are, the VP Zero is interesting.
Posted By: Wid Re: Ebay Sales - 04/09/06 05:08 AM

Nor is there any mention on how they came to selling Axioms. You only get 3 days to audition the speakers, not good imo.
Posted By: JohnK Re: Ebay Sales - 04/09/06 05:30 AM
As Dennis pointed out, the fact that the seller is a liquidator(also that an old VP Zero is one of the items)would indicate that this is probably old stock which some former Axiom dealer in Canada got rid of.
Posted By: littleb Re: Ebay Sales - 04/09/06 09:11 PM
John,

You may be right, but it seems a bit strange that such dealer couldn't have sold its available stock by now. It just makes a guy wonder. [question]
Posted By: rcvecc Re: Ebay Sales - 04/10/06 01:01 AM
it kinda sucks that i can get the 80s for 130 bucks cheaper than when i bought them direct a few years ago
Posted By: HomeDad Re: Ebay Sales - 04/10/06 02:07 AM
That's assuming that only one bidder bids and wins the auction. I've seen strange things on eBay, where items get bid up above what people could get them retail for.
Posted By: Amie Re: Ebay Sales - 04/10/06 11:22 AM
Wow - I would DEFINITELY not recommend buying from this character. We haven't had retailers since 2002/2003 - so these are very old speakers if they are even from a retailer. I wonder if the M80 and VP150 would even be the current driver configuration!!! Interesting copyright infringements too. Thanks for pointing this out - we'll see if Ebay will help us deal with this character. Certainly not Axiom direct, ferguson630!
Posted By: ratpack Re: Ebay Sales - 04/10/06 11:53 AM
Thanks Amie. I knew that someone from Axiom would clarify the situation. Please let us know what the results are.
Posted By: JaimeG Re: Ebay Sales - 04/10/06 02:09 PM
I stop browsing on eBay about 4 years ago, at that time, it started to be very difficult to weed out scammers from an honest people, and I’ll bet it hasn’t got better by now. If there’s one thing I’ll hate to do unknowingly (and knowingly ) is to support crooks and criminals. EBay is still good for buying things you can’t find anywhere (antiques, special ed. musical instrument…), but not for everyday items you can buy elsewhere. The old axiom (no pun intended) ‘if it’s too good to be true, it IS to good to be true’ applies on eBay big time.
Posted By: bugbitten Re: Ebay Sales - 04/10/06 09:15 PM
I noticed that some of the speakers are listed as "new".
Posted By: Stone__Man Re: Ebay Sales - 04/10/06 11:22 PM
maybe I'm missing something here ?? whats the big deal? So what if someone is selling Axioms on ebay, there are ALL kinds of speakers sold on ebay. I checked the items and not ONE that I seen said that it had more than a pair. (many items list Amount Available). Looks like somehone had a few they wanted to get rid of , dealer or not, I don't see the harm in it and what the fuss is about. What if YOU wanted to sell your Axioms on ebay? and sellers copy from the manufacture site ALOT on ebay for their discription, and pics as well. I could be wrong on the #'s of speakers avail. but right now it seems a mountain is being made of a mole hill.
Posted By: ferguson630 Re: Ebay Sales - 04/11/06 04:43 AM
Seeing I started this I'll throw in some more comments. First the seller is implying that he sells overstock, and close outs. As I know there have not been Axiom dealers in Canada for a number of years, and the pics and model numbers appear to be current, I asked the question did Axioim sell of this way and if so, why did they not offer a sale to clients. Most things on Ebay are buyer beware, and yes most people post using the info posted on the makes sites, but the products are not usually current models. It will be interesting to watch and see what they sell for.
Posted By: HomeDad Re: Ebay Sales - 04/11/06 05:11 AM
As Amie said these are most likely old models, the current versions are all M80v2's as well as the VP150v2, so the technology on these speakers may not be up to their current models.
Posted By: ratpack Re: Ebay Sales - 04/11/06 11:13 AM
I think the issue is that they are represented as "new" and potential buyers would expect the "latest" version/ technology. While they may be "new" (never sold or used before), they appear not to represent the latest Axiom technology.

At least for me, this is a bit of a misrepresentation.
Posted By: HomeDad Re: Ebay Sales - 04/18/06 08:24 PM
For those that did not track, the older m80 went for 912.00 with 150.00 shipping, the vp150's went for 270.00, 261.00 with 50.00 shipping. In my book not great deals for older equipment without Axioms customer service and guarantee.
Posted By: ratpack Re: Ebay Sales - 04/19/06 02:41 AM
Just goes to show you that people really get involved in their ebay bidding, probably too involved.
Posted By: ferguson630 Re: Ebay Sales - 04/19/06 05:41 AM
I placed a watch on the M60 and just had an email from the seller saying they were moving them to a 'buy now' site, $720 for a pair Cdn. I sent him an email asking him when the speakers were made if they could tell. See what happens.
Posted By: ratpack Re: Ebay Sales - 04/19/06 11:25 AM
Please keep us informed.
Posted By: fcapio Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 06:33 PM
Is axiom in trouble? Why do they allow themselves to engage in a smear campaign against a reputable eBay seller by insinuating he is selling “old” speakers. The idea that a manufacturer is trying to prevent his products from being sold on eBay because it is less expensive is unheard of. Imagine all manufacturers are doing the same; this is a vision of a disturbed mind. Axiom has, by its own admission, eliminated the retailers in Canada and is obviously exploiting its market position to sell overpriced manufacture. Only a simple mind would believe that axiom’s prices are “factory prices” ; they are RETAIL PRICES. I congratulate the other poster at this forum who states that a saving of $200.00 on an m80s is an immaterial amount. For some of us it makes a difference. A more important question is: when do axiom speakers become “old”????? How quickly does axiom technology become obsolete???? Please tell us: How quickly does axiom technology become obsolete????
If it would not be so futile I could go on and on raising questions about the motivations of axiom and its trembling before the face of a competitor.

Posted By: Ken.C Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 06:39 PM
Wow, that's a credible post from a newbie.

The real question is, how did they get their hands on new speakers if Axiom has only been selling direct for the last 2 years?

I think Dennis (Tharkun) has the right of it; some Canadian retailer had leftover and used this liquidator to sell them.
Posted By: fcapio Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 06:42 PM

"they appear not to represent the latest axiom technology" ???? are you psychic?

Posted By: Ken.C Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 06:45 PM
Awful aggressive for someone who doesn't have a personal stake in this--unless you're the retailer? In which case, come on out and say it. Explain where you got them, and reassure us that you're selling legit products.

here is the email i received from axiom's webmaster:
Awful aggressive for someone who doesn't have a personal stake in this--unless you're the retailer? In which case, come on out and say it. Explain where you got them, and reassure us that you're selling legit products.
here is my answer to him:
I am upset because you interfere with a great institution like eBay, but how could a petty minded company as yours understand that.
what you do is passive-aggressive and ugly

Posted By: Ken.C Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 07:29 PM
That wasn't from Axiom's webmaster. That was from me, and it's not an email. It was my posting response to your first reply. I am, in interest of full disclosure, a happy customer of Axiom's and one of the posters with the highest post counts on the board. Do not confuse me with Axoim employees. Their names are in red on the boards.

BTW, yes, I am passive aggressive.

So, what's your stake in eBay, which has had its share of scams?

As a further note, I'm pretty sure you got an email labeled from Axiom's webmaster because you either selected to watch this thread or when you set up your account, you chose to be notified by email whenever anyone replied to you.
Posted By: Ajax Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 07:31 PM
Well dumb me, I can't even take my own advice.

In reply to:

Please tell us: How quickly does axiom technology become obsolete????

Well since you asked, and apparently failed to read the entire thread, Axiom had this to say about that

"Wow - I would DEFINITELY not recommend buying from this character. We haven't had retailers since 2002/2003 - so these are very old speakers if they are even from a retailer. I wonder if the M80 and VP150 would even be the current driver configuration!!!

Interestingly YOU are the only one who has used the word "obsolete." What has been said here is that while these may be "new" (never sold or used before), they appear not to represent the latest Axiom technology."

Now we don't know how this character (someone you know, perhaps?) obtained these speakers. But, if he obtained them from a retailer, they are "very old" and probably don't have the latest driver configuration.

And why on earth would you google this particular topic, and then go off the deep end about it? HMMM?

LOL! You'll have to explain how on earth this thread is "interfering" with Ebay. What? Does everybody who goes to Ebay stop by here first? And, as Ken pointed out, not everybody considers Ebay a "great institution."

Why do I suspect that you are more concerned about this particular vendor rather than defending the honor of Ebay?
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 07:41 PM
I don't think I've ever said I was always right... am I always right, guys?

And no, I have no life. I certainly don't have a job, a wife, hobbies, friends, nothing. I spend my life in internet cafes, posting on this board. It's a sad existance, and I resent the fact that you had to drag this admission out of me, in to the harsh light of the web.
Posted By: Ajax Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 07:50 PM
Lemme see. He googles an obscure topic, comes to this forum, liberally passes out insults, hangs around to continue his flaming, and he's suggesting that YOU get a life? LOL!

And, by the way, Ken, you are NEVER right.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 07:50 PM
Actually, I think it's kind of interesting how our new friend is skewing the debate here. I'm really sort of agnostic on this whole eBay thing; I've got no problem with people clearing out stuf on eBay, it's just a matter of how they're marketing it. In fact, I think certain people in this thread were overreacting.

But then we get strange new posts, and boy, am I up in arms-Jack, too. Interesting psychological reaction there...

There was a post, earlier in this thread, that questioned the reactions many had to this situation. He wasn't insulting, or nasty. He raised a legitimate question in a reasonable manner. Not this guy. His goal is to be as unpleasant as possible.

I'd QUICKLY pass up the savings if it means knowing FOR CERTAIN that I'm receiving a NEW product of Axiom's latest design, in addition to 5 years of stellar customer service.

What is it that you hope to accomplish showing up here and immediately hurling insults at long-standing members? Hmm, something tells me you'll be gone as quickly as you showed up...once you figure out that there are intelligent posters here that will quickly lay waste to your weak argument, without need to resort to insulting when running out of anything of substance to say.

You guys are an interesting crowd. One tells me he is the master-poster, another how much money he has and he can retire at 37 and you seem to believe being a long standing member guarantees immunity. We call this self-admiration society. This is really fun. But is there anyone out there who is willing to answer my principal question “how long does it take for an axiom product to become obsolete” and can not be sold and must be shredded?

Posted By: Ken.C Re: Ebay Sales - 04/22/06 08:36 PM
Yup, we're the egomaniac society.

And you don't seem to be reading our posts very well, not to mention you kind of forgot to ask that question in between hurling insults.

The issue (as I see it, others may see differently) is that it is not disclosed how these speakers were obtained, and they are being sold as new. I suppose new in box might be acceptable (or I'm splitting hairs), but if they're 2-4 years old, they cannot be considered "new."

Hell, I don't care if people sell used stuff on eBay, or reconditioned (although how one would obtain a reconditioned speaker when AFAIK Axiom doesn't recondition them, I don't know), but I do get a slightly squicky feeling from someone selling as new that which cannot be new.

And if you don't like us, well, there's the close button up there on your browser.

I like EBAY.
I think fcapio is funny............. BUT!.....I will NOT stand by, and let him call this a "self-admiration society".

It seems to me, to be more of a "soap opera".

Posted By: ferguson630 Re: Ebay Sales - 04/24/06 06:48 PM
So I got this going by searching Ebay. My first reaction, and yes an over reaction, came from reading the sellers comments about selling bankruptcies and overstock items. I thought that Axiom was selling overstock and here I am trying to come up with the money to buy speakers. I followed Ebay and now the seller sends me an email basically quoting what fcapio is saying, again I will assume he is the seller. The seller, though the ebay email system, has called me
Either a Axiom spy – now I want a discount from Axiom
Or a busy body with nothing better to do – look at my profile, have been searching the truth for 40 years.

I have no problem with Ebay sales,” buyer beware” – I asked the era of the speakers, the seller shows current pics but says they are black, guess no sense of humor. Sell on ebay but call the product what it is!

I will continue on my quest to buy, warranty and honesty are basic. Instead of running Axiom down, just tell us how old they are and someone will likely buy them.

I've not visited this thread in some time. I must say it's made me shake my head and at times laugh. I said what I thought about this whole ebay hub-bub in my first post so wont go into that.

BUT . . . so comments have brought one question to me wee brain.

what EXACTLY is the difference to a say M80 or vp150 and a "V2" of the same? what have been changed? drivers? crossover points? what?

what date did this umm.. upgrade to V2 happen?

also, does this "V2" encompase the whole of the Axiom line or only the 80, 150? If it is the whole line are the changes the same throughout?

one last thought, I have read lot's of reviews of many makers product. and some as old as 2000-01 , not all of them have a V2 or such designator, so are they all selling "old" product still? Without any actuall improvements made to a product what makes the difference what its "born on" date is?

again I don't spell check . . . so shot me! lol
carry on :P
