After yearning for the M60s for so long I am just about ready to order. Only problem is now that I have read all the reviews about the M80s I can't help but think I should hold on a bit longer and get the bigger speakers. Any opinions on the subject?
Worth the wait!
Had 60s, now 80s.
The M80's are great, but so are the 60's. They sound very much alike, you can't go wrong either way.
Since I'm planning on a subwoofer, the bottom end doesn't mean as much. Am I right? That seems to be the biggest difference between the two?
if you got the amp for the 80, or are willing to get the 4 ohm capable amp for them.....then there is no debate, get them.
I think my Denon 3805 will be fine.
The Denon will do fine for the M80s. Ya might as well go for Axioms flagship speakers, no what ifs then
Not sure that it is a BIG difference if you look at the graphs. The 80's can handle more power, but my 60's fill my 30ft x 30ft room just fine. I would use the money for an EP500/600.
The factory outlet will also save you some dough.
Seems like there was just another thread on this board questioning M60s versus M80s. You might do a search and review the comments.
My comment is the same. If you can afford the M80s, buy them. That way, you won't wish that you had in a couple of months!!
Get the M80s! They are great speakers!

Yes, it will, but also make a good pre/pro down the line.
Are you getting them in the standard or custom wood finish? If you are going the wood route, I’d get the 60’s. The grills on the 80’s cover up too much speaker and if I was going through the expense of the wood option, I’d want to see it. Vain? Sure, but who doesn’t want a hot looking girlfriend.
If you’re just going the standard vinyl route, I’d suggest you get the 80’s. Only reason being, if you get the 60’s, you’ll be wondering ‘what if’ all the time.
Regardless of which one you get, you’ll be happy with both I’m sure.
Once again they are both great, if the budget is a concern you can always go with the 60's ,if you are not satisfied within 30 days you can upgrade to the 80's at just the upgrade cost, Axiom will cover the return shipment of the 60's.

Buy to custom wood 80s and let them go naked!
I acually prefer my Axiom speakers with the grills on. The aluminum drivers look out of place to me. The Opus speakers look better with the grills off though. Their drivers just look cool and blend in well.

Yes, keeping the grilles on your real wood speakers is like making your girlfriend wear clothes.
I know what you meant, but just thought it was a funny comparison.
Mabey have her sit in front of the speakers without clothes, what grills?
Depends on what you will use them for. Myself for example, I use mine for HT only. Not a big music listener. Really the only difference is that the 80's can play louder. I dont know how loud you need to get though, M60's will make you go deaf.

Maybe.......what speakers!
my lil lady is too distracting with cloths on. without.....ya, what speakers?
Yeah, they're called hooters, not woofers.

Well, to each his / her own!
I
love the look of the M80's w/grills off. Nice contrast against the cherry finish. Viva la difference!
You, obviously, don't have children or grandchildren!!!
Ya read me like a book, rat!
