Hello,
I have the epic midi 125 system with the ep125 sub. I have had this system for many months now and just noticed a low hum from my sub. What can I do to fix this buz sound...

thanks,
jon

I got rid of the buz. I had to unplug my tv audio from my receiver. I guess I can't have stereo when watching tv...that sucks.

There are other options, that I'm sure others will offer advice. I don't have such problems with my EP500 and front projection environment.

Ye olde ground loop problem. Others will be along shortly with advice...

Here is an article by Alan that covers ground loops. As a temporary fix you could try a cheater plug. If you try this make sure not to connect it to the cover screw, you want to lift the ground.

Jon, the fact that unplugging the TV audio got rid of the hum indicates that it's most likely a ground loop related to a cable TV input. You can buy one of the cable ground loop isolators. In the meantime, you can try to partially remove the RCA plug so that the center conductor still makes contact and transmits the TV sound, but the outer shield doesn't make contact and carry the hum into your receiver.

Hi jonn21,

As JohnK mentioned, your incoming video signal from cable TV is almost always the source of subwoofer/TV/receiver ground loops.

Here is a link to Axiom's ground isolator, which goes between your incoming cable-TV feed and the set-top box or your TV's cable input.

The ground isolator causes no degradation of digital or HD digital services. However, it cannot be used with satellite TV feeds of any kind.

By the way, your cable system may supply you with one of these if you complain. I've heard of one that did.
