Sorry folks, I just don't feel up to downloading and reading that manual again. My brother-in-law has a 3806 and is planning to hook up his PC along with a PS3, using the 3806 as an HDMI switch but getting the audio from either digital coax/optical or RCA left/right analog.

My understanding is that if anything the 3806 has problems with audio on the HDMI inputs but no problem with mixing HDMI video and non-HDMI audio.

The question is whether I can set him up with the graphics card I have in hand now (an X1950Pro) or whether we need to get him an HD2xxx or HD3xxx which has an audio controller built into the graphics chip making it easy to route audio over the HDMI connector.

Any experiences with this ?

Thanks,
John

Oh, you need a newer card. You should send the old one to me, I'll take care of it.

What you should check is if the 1950Pro has HDCP available on the DVI ports; if so, you can use a DVI-HDMI adapter. If not, get a 3850.

I don't think the card has HDCP but since it's only supposed to be used for gaming not as an HTPC I don't think it should be a problem.

Good point though -- I'll double-check his plans and make sure there are no HD/BR expectations in the future.

I'm late posting due to vacationing from EVERYTHING over the holidays but if it is still relevant, I do have a Denon 3806.

I am running video and audio from my Toshiba A2 over HDMI to the 3806. No problems.

I am running video only on HDMI from my Bell ExpressVu HD reciever to my 3806. Audio is optical. No problems.

From there it switches video to the HDMI Out to my TV, via a HDMI to DVI conversion cable. No problems here either.
