Has anyone encountered this and if so what's the resolution? I was trying to copy a four-volume compiliation (this set if you're interested) onto our media server, and for some reason every disc is encoded with the same information, the information that pertains to disc 1. I have the four-disc sequel to this and it doesn't have the problem. So when I put in disc 2, the system looks like it is seeing disc 1 again. I'm not sure how best to handle it - burn the disc into a folder and rename it and export it?

What software are you using?

Windows Media Center.

I couldnt tell you what the problem is but I have used a program called "Cdex" for years for ripping cd's and it is flawless. You may want to give it a try. I think its a bit less windows nazi ish than WMP is.

Sounds like one of several things.

1. WMP is not refreshing the CD titles for those disks. Exit WMP/Media Center and restart it to see if it refreshes. (not likely since it works with other disks)

2. The title info put on the CDs was the same by mistake. (also not likely but meaning you have to do it by hand)

3. WMP is pulling the title info off a database on the internet and for some reason is only finding/downloading info for disk 1 and substituting it for all the disks. (I’ve had this happen a couple of times using “Exact Audio Copy.” (this is most likely and also meaning you have to do it by hand.

Thanks Grunt - I always reboot machines before drawing any conclusions about anything so I had done the exit, meaning #1 didn't work. My worry about #3 was accidentally putting the wrong data on the disc but I can't think of another way to do it so I'll give it a go! Thanks for your help.

Yeah, those databases aren't always accurate. I've had the worst time with classical CDs. If it's anything like iTunes, you'll have to rip it first, then rename the tracks--it take the track names from the database, rather than what you've named them on the CD. But maybe WMP is smarter than that.

Uhhh...the disk is "unavailable". Looks like a great set too.

Wow. Weird I thought I was the only one who bought this disc when it came out!

It's a regular can-con love fest in here, eh. ;\)

(I've learned so much about Canada here. Can you tell?)

LOL Peter!

Lorenzo, it's the perfect disc when you're making new friends. If they're Canadian, they have stories about where they were when those songs came out. If they're American, they usually express disbelief that the bands are Canadian. Either way, it gets toes tapping and conversation flowing.

I wonder if MuchMusic will ever do a retrospective on Martha and the Muffins?

And let's not overlook Humphrey and the Dumptrucks (Saskatchewan-based, but they had a big hit single, whose title I'd have to Google.)

Amie - You can always override the settings in the Media Center by right clicking on the album and selecting (I believe) "Find album info". This will open up a search dialogue box. You can then either select the proper disc from a list or search until you find it. I have not ad the problem that you've encountered, but often, when I download albums off the internet, the metadata isn't totally intact, so the media center has trouble figuring out the disc info. This is a good quick fix.

Remember, though, that after you fix all of your albums, click the button (under tools, I think) that says "update album information" - this will refresh the media center listings, makign sure that the album information, including cover art, is correct.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a million, Cap'n! I couldn't figure out why I didn't have that setting and then I realized I was talking about plain ole Media Center and you were talking about Windows Media Center. Sure enough, I could do just what you said in WMC and I'm back in the game. I never would have figured that out - thanks a bunch.

What a friendly, helpful bunch of people around here . . . ;\)

My pleasure, Amie. For all you guys have done for me, it's little trouble to pipe up when I have some "know how."
