What are you using to clean your plasma tv screens? I see plasma/lcd specific kits in stores that are $20 - $30. Are they just Windex in a fancy package? So far I have been using glass cleaner on mine with no ill effects.
good question, I just got a new Panny Plasma, may need to check the owners manual to see what they recommend. So far, still clean...
We've owned plasmas for about six years and use nothing special, a little glass cleaner every now and then without any grave effects so far.
I thought I read not to use glass cleaner on a plasma. Something to do with the anti glare coating. I have a plasma and lcd cleaning kit that I will use. I know it worked well on the lcd.
By golly you are right Rick...
Cleaning a Plasma screenWe've never had any issues, but then I don't believe we're using an ammonia based cleaner either. I know it's not Windex.
I had a smudge the other day from one of the boys hands, just took a damp cloth and blotted it off. I'm sure at some point I'll need to dust/clean it...will have to research. Thanks Rick x 2.
I seem to remember from reading the instruction manual of my rp that I was only to use a damp cloth (water).
This is what everyone needs:
Necessity
Better hurry because he can't do this all day
All you need is one very damp and one dry cloth (microfiber) and gently apply a little elbow grease. No need to spend money on exotic screen cleaning kits.
I'm with the Doc - two of those microfiber thingy's have worked perfectly for me.
Second the vote for microfiber.
for my lcd rp (with plastic type anti glare screen) I just use a soft cotton rag that has been cut out of an old t-shirt. I get it slightly damp only if there is a smudge.
No cleaners of any sort have ever been put on my screen.
If you already have eyeglass cleaner in the house, that's a safe way to clean any screen/glass with an anti-glare coating (monitor, TV, camera lens, scope lens).
At least a good solution for us "four-eyes."

You mean I shouldn't be using my t-shirt?
Does anyone just blow really hard?
In the winter, my eyebrows flake a little, so sometimes blowing is all it takes to clear the lenses.
Does anyone just blow really hard?
They call me "Reverse Dyson" at work.
Does anyone just blow really hard?
I tried that once. It takes too long to wipe all the spit off.

If you gargled cleaning solution you'd be one step ahead of the game!
*kids--don't try that at home!!!!*

Are we still on the topic of cleaning a plasma screen? Was going to post something but thought I'd ask
I don't know if it applies to plasma screens, but any glass cleaner that contains ammonia is very bad for LCD screens. Most glass cleaners, including Windex, are ammonia-based. I wouldn't risk it on any sort of display, unless it's a good old CRT. I use a microfiber cloth, dampened with a little water, to clean off my screens (laptops LCD's, DLP TV, etc). I know that the manual for my LED DLP HDTV (Samsung) specifically warns against using any sort of glass cleaner on the screen.
I have a bottle of LCD/DLP screen cleaner that I use if there's a smudge on it. A small investment to protect expensive equipment.
I have first-hand knowledge of what repeated cleanings with Windex do to LCD monitors. It's not pretty. First it discolors the screen. And eventually it can even peel off the coatings. Either way, it ruins them.
At my job, we have a factory area that generates a lot of dust. There are LCD monitors in those areas that have to be cleaned regularly. Even though we (the IT dept) had told the folks that use those monitors to *not* use Windex to clean their monitors, they did it anyway. The results were completely unusable monitors in about 6 months. Imagine smearing your monitor with butter. That's about what it looked like when the users finally complained that their monitors had 'gone bad'.
Yeah, but it makes for good tastin' monitors! Mmmmmm- Mmmmmm!
Well thanks for the tips and other suggestions. I'll be sure to put away the glass cleaner.
I have several microfibre cloths and water is cheap.
So I should have happy viewing!!
I know this looks like a gimic, but this stuff really is the best I've ever used.

That link has the word "taint" in it.
My Pioneer plasma manual states that distilled water and a silk cloth is all that is needed. My tv actually came with the cloth, similar to the ones you get to clean your eyeglasses. I have had the tv for about a year now and never cleaned it yet. It doesn't attract dust like the old crt and we are careful not to touch the screen (so there aren't any fingerprints).

My screen attracts my kids (5, 3, & 1). I kind'a wish it could defend itself. Sort of like an electric fence.
How about something like this with a quick pass over?
