Hey guys, as a preliminary to possibly considering purchasing (maybe) the Emo UPA-2, I decided to try using the 12V trigger on the EP350. My H/K 525 doesn't have a trigger out, but as I mentioned in the UPA-2 thread, I have found a blurb about using a wall wart of the appropriate voltage and amperage to do the trick. The wall wart would be plugged into the switched outlet on the receiver. However, here's the rub: I don't know what the appropriate voltage and amperage is. I have a 12V 1500mA adapter that I bought from ratshack today, but I don't want to risk damaging the sub. I'll call Axiom for their tech department on Monday (Brent wasn't sure and asked me to call back then), but I thought I'd see if any of you guys had any idea.

Ken, a range of voltages would turn the sub amp on, and within reason it should be more important to have the voltage high enough. I've noticed that those turn-on triggers are typically referred to as "12 volt"(for example, note this sub amp), and I'd think that the adaptor you bought would be suitable.

By the way, I'll extend the same offer of prayer to resist this Emotiva urge to you that I did to Mark Johnson in the post that you read and commented on.

Yeah, I'm more concerned about the rather high amperage on the adapter I bought. I'm sure the voltage would work. Then again, if I can get away with a smaller/cheaper one, so much the better.

Ken, the 12v output of the adaptor is the constant and is the "boss" that turns on the sub amp. The maximum current capability of the adaptor isn't significant(assuming that it's high enough, of course)and whatever the input impedance of the sub amp at that point is automatically determines what the current is, not the adaptor max spec.

OK, then the question becomes, what's the smallest I can get away with?

I asked Dr. Ohm and he told me I=E/R. So the answer is 12v divided by whatever the input impedance of the sub amp trigger circuit is.

I=e/r but r is total ressitance where as impedance or z does not = r . theres a bit more math involved (vector diagram) but should be close enough for what u need , but might be worth looking into .
