Do you think I can push the VP180 with this receiver till I can get another monoblock or should I play it safe and leave it in the box till I get a 4-ohm capable amp?
You have other monoblocks now?
I so, I think the receiver might be fine if it's only pushing the center and surrounds. Just start easy...
Yes the M80s are run by monoblocks, the surrounds and center by the receiver
Actually the receiver "should" go into protect anyway but...
I am going to play it safe and wait till I get another 2200 monoblock
So you're going to spend more money instead of learning that the 1500 has a substantial 4 ohm capability.
the receiver should drive your 80's and 180 fine without mono's.
monoblock shipped yesterday, ok I am stubborn
If there were any speakers that were designed for external or professional amps it would be the M80's and VP180. Why do you think there are 2 tweeters instead of 1 in the driver complement - power handling.
I keep looking at those M2200 from Outlaw, I recently was impressed with these:

Do you know the pricing on those? I may be too lazy to create an account so I can login to view the pricing.
I was thinking I'd use my A1400-8 to power my mains and center and get separate amps to power any surround/height/wide channels.
From what I have been able to find they run about $1500 give or take.
My M2200 was $385 with shipping, fedex says it should arrive Friday.
Those M2200's have always been a good deal and even better when they put them on sale. I have been tempted many times to hit the submit button but can't quite justify a purchase quite yet.
Me and you both, Jay!
Someday, when they have a particularly good sale, we should egg each other on!
Got the amp and installed the VP180 today, completely fills the space on the shelf. Then for my friend and his son that came over to help I put on Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band and played the song Hit The Ground Running and the sound of the M80s and VP180 was very articulate and punchy at a fairly high volume, they were extremely impressed. I'd take a picture but can't figure out where the camera is. Anyway I am happy.
