I read the review of the M3TI speaker in Soundstage. I want to know if your company will consider making a "hot rod" version of that speaker?

We already do. The M40, M50, M60, and M80 models are all based on the M3 basic design with added performance features. The M40 is in a larger cabinet with dual porting making it an M3 with lower base extension. The M50 incorporates an extra woofer for even deeper bass and higher efficiency. The M60 has an added 5 1/4" woofer and utilizes the dual 6 1/2" woofers for low bass only, this adds to the off axis consistency of the amplitude response and thusly to the imaging and detail. The M80 has dual 5 1/4" and dual tweeters for exceptionally clean sound at very high volume levels.

Thank you very much for the information. I am now seeing that you have a model 22 speaker. Where does this one now fit it in the lineup of speakers? Is it better than a 40?

The M22 is essencially the upper portion of the M60 and M80 in its own bookshelf size cabinet. The performace decision between the M40 and the M22 should be based on whether or not you have a sub-woofer. Since the M22 cannot play as deep or as powerful in the low end as the M40, the M40 is a better stand alone choice, assuming the size of the speaker is not an issue for you. The M22 used with our EP125. EP175, or EP350 sub-woofer will perform more like an M60 or M80 than the M40 or M3. If you were thinking of either M60's or M80's but do not have the space then I would suggest the M22 and a sub for the best possible performance.

In June 2001 review, frequency response of the M40Ti as measured by Soundstage was not as flat as it is in the technical specifications (40-22K, +/- 3dB). More specifically, there was a significant dip of on-axis response (8-9dB) at about 700Hz, followed by comments that subjectively M40's midrange was not as good as M3's. Since I was considering ordering one of your tower models, I would appreciate your comments on this measurement. Also, it would be interesting to know if higher end models (M60 or M50) have similar behavior, or this is inherent to M40.

Hi Grant;

We already make the M22ti, which is a hotrod M3 in bookshelf. If towers are more your thing, the M40 is the tower version of the M3, with the M50, 60 and 80 being our souped-up versions.
