G'day there,

I was playing some Frequency sweeps on the weekend and when it got down to 15 - 5hz 1 of the M80 woofers made a ticking sound when moving in and out confused. Just wondering what that could be and if there's a problem with the speaker? So on that note i checked the other M80 and VP180 by pushing the cone lightly and found that a couple mid range speakers made a scraping type sound eek and wondering also what that could be and if there's something wrong with the speaker. With them making that sound will that do damage to the speaker because i cant hear it from my seating position but would it effect sound quality? Hope you can help,

Cheers.
Woofers are pooched. Every single one that is making the scraping sound. They need to be replaced.

Playing test tones at those frequencies you were just asking for trouble.
I would call Axiom.
As BlueJays1 said, test tones are dangerous; it's the reason people don't listen to them all the time in place of music.

for some :-S people, test tones ARE music, but they must be very cautious and handle it as if it was dynamite.

Did you have the m80's playing full range? That is even lower than an ep500 can play.
those subs that can play 5-15 Hz are quite rare indeed.

Cool, thanks for the link JB - that's the 1st I've heard of that technology.

and expensive! shocked
They are set to LARGE and crossover at 80hz. I didnt think the M80's would go down that low! I was using the sweeps to checking the sub to see the SPL readings for different lower frequencies to see how even they were.
Deano, welcome. If the mains are set "Large", there is no crossover for them. They play(or at least attempt to play)full range.
Thank you, Im all new to HT. I contacted axiom and they said if there is no distortion from the drivers or the mids, there will be no issues. I'll Stay well away from frequency sweeps from now on! Thanks to everyone that replied, Cheers
