Hello all: I just bought a new TV, amplifier and processor. The TV is an LG 55SK8000PUA; the amplifier is an Outlaw model 5000 with an Outlaw model 975 processor. Both the TV and processor have HDMI ARC input/outputs. Looking to the handbooks for both products, I still cannot get the ARC to work. I want to feed that audio into my M80V3’s. I am not certain how ARC works technically, whether or not ARC is supposed to override any other connections when I need use it or not. Your help is needed and appreciated. Thank you all.
The TV audio menu should include an option to enable ARC.
The Outlaw also needs to have HDMI ARC selected for audio. See p.32 of Outlaw manual.
Also make sure you're using at least HDMI 1.3 cable. Earlier cables don't ARC.
Thanks Mojo, I’ll try it all.
...because unlike Emotivas, they don't implode when powering M80s.
Well I tried everything I could think of including contacting Outlaw support. Unfortunately support is only through computer rather than live. Here is the problem now, I can't see any "On Screen Display," it just doesn't show. Outlaw confirmed that my setup is correct in terms of connections. I bought the latest HDMI connection cable I could find. I am so frustrated with this problem. My thinking is if I could get the OSD working I'd be able to enable the ARC on the processor. I am pretty sure I have it enabled on the TV. Has anyone any other thoughts?
Captain, ARC on that LG is supported on HDMI2. Is that the port your Outlaw is connected to?
The only thing I can think of is an ARC protocol hand-shaking issue. I don't know how you can get to the bottom of that. Maybe try hooking the Outlaw to another ARC-ready TV?
Shouldn’t I be able to see the OSD? I can’t get it to show.
Have you tried using a different HDMI port on the LG just to enable ARC? Then switch to HDMI2.
No I haven’t. I’ll give it a try.
I finally bought a toslink and it seems to be working but the quality of fidelity seems underwhelming to me.
Captain, LG does not list any specs for the optical connection but lots of audio specs for HDMI. LG specifically says to connect via HDMI for the best audio quality.
For the best connection CEC\ARC every manufacturer states HDMI. SPDIF/Digital will not do ATMOS/DTSX and the likes. They only transfer up to 7.1.
HDMI has become the everything cable for most every device and function.
Another issue could be the HDMI cables version. A cable of a couple years ago will not pass the new codecs. Too a newer machine.
Could be a bad HDMI board. Very prone to failure.
