I installed my Epic 80 system at Christmas, but am having trouble getting the bass out of "my head"...litterally. It seems that no matter what the adjustmen, room position or bass levels, the bass is High up physically in your head, and this gets tiring My kenwood sub puts the bass in your belly where it seems it should be...the bass drum in the parade feeling.
Any suggestions as to what is wrong?

Have you calibrated your system with a Rat Shack meter so that all the speakers (including the sub) are at the same level? If not, there's no way of knowing that you don't have the bass level way too HIGH. Also, where is the crossover set?

The system has been calibrated to approximately 75db in the primary listening position with the meter set on C weighting slow response. The crossover is set to 90 hz or about 10 hz above the mt80's. The system is powered by a Kenwood vr-5900 and the mains are set to NML (small) setting.

It is in a room that is 13'5" by 23'. I get the same'feeling' no matter what volume the sub is at.

Mark, I can't evaluate the head/belly thing, but the one point that strikes me is that you're apparently saying that you've set the crossover control on the sub to roughly 90Hz(most of those controls are notoriously inaccurate). If your 5900 is doing a crossover at 80Hz, that's the only crossover that's needed and the one on the sub is just interfering. It should be turned up to the highest setting so as to get it as far out of the way of the 80Hz crossover as possible. I don't know if that's part of the problem, or if it's just that you're looking for very heavy bass, but that's the way the sub crossover control should be set.

Will, have you tried swapping out the 350 for the old Kenwood sub? How does the old sub sound with the new M80's? Also, double check the polarity of the 80's, and the phase switch on the 350.

I've worked with both suggestions in just the last hour our so. Polarities correct and in phase.

I've done a side by side comparison, although it's difficult. The Kenwood is a 150W system and the EP350 is a 350W system. I think one of them is too small and one is too big for the room. More a level control?

I am looking for bass presence, not 10 x 15" car trunk bass. One major difference I've noticed is that the speakers center of axis is much different. The Kenwood is only 6" off of the floor and the Axiom is 12".
