I keep asking questions and tweaking my setup ever since I got my speakers 3 weeks ago. My M60s are sitting on each side of an 8 foot entertainment unit (two towers for the components with a 51" Sony in between). The M60s are toed in slightly. How far from the wall should they be?

They sit along a 16 foot side of a 16' X 24' room.

Thanks, John

JSkip

optimal distance is 2 feet (24 inches) from the wall.

i have noticed good sound even from 18 inches.

mine are slightly toed in, about a foot or less from the wall; had to compromise.

John, you haven't really described some of the measurements which might be relevant. First, the M60s should be separated nearly as much as your distance from them, if possible. Another factor is that the three distances of the woofer cones from the floor and the two nearest walls should be different from each other. Still another consideration is the depth of the entertainment center; the front of the M60s should be at least as far out, so as to minimize diffraction from the entertainment center.

19" from the wall seems to be the best for mine right now, but I have no carpet or wall hangings.

I had them sounding just right, and then I put more stuff in the room last night. Believe it or not, the high end dropped off. I've gotta play with them again tonight.

I also found that if I put them within 6" of my 65" Mits, the TV cabinet starts to amplify and project the low end. It can sound pretty ugly...

JohnK, I have a drawing of the room, but I don't know how to add it to my post. My M60s are currently 13 inches from the back wall, 3 feet from the side wall and 4 inches from the entertainment unit. I sit about 13 feet from the entertainment unit and front speakers.

Thanks, John

I posted the drawing of my room here:

I do not have a sub yet. The VP150 sits on a shelf above the 51" Sony.

Thanks, John

John, after looking at your diagram, it seems that your M60 woofer distances from the room surfaces have a good variation, and if they protrude slightly in front of the unit, that's fine. One thing that I noticed is that chair facing the fireplace. Does its back block or at least diffract some of the sound from the left M60? So, I don't see where you should make any changes in the speaker positions.

I moved the chair around and don't hear any difference. I want the chair gone completely, but I'll lose that argument.
