Hey everyone,
Am new to the forum here, having just received a pair of m80's and hooking them up to my old 2 channel amp. Using these strictly for audio purposes and am still working out all the wrinkles, but am inclined to add a subwoofer to make up for a small lack of bass response. I'm not really too technically adept, so I have a quick question about subwoofer hookups.
I have a Carver TFM-25 amp puuting out 375 watts @ 4 ohms and a Carver C-1 preamp with two outputs. Is there a way to hook up a powered subwoofer using my current equipment? Can I simply hook up the powered subwoofer to my second preamp output as if it were a second amp and run the subwoofer that way. I'm on a tight budget and just want to make sure before I invest.
Thanks for your help.

Yes you can use the second set of preouts to drive a powered sub.I did it for years before I bought an Outlaw Audio Icbm that I use as a crossover in my 2 ch setup.

Scott, welcome. Yes, you can use the extra set of left/right outputs on the C-1 to drive a subwoofer amp. You could either use two sub cables or use a Y-adaptor and one cable. Before you get into that though, maybe experiment with the positioning of your M80s. They have very strong bass and if you're going to use them for stereo music only, it might be satisfactory for music except for 16Hz pipe organ passages.

Thanks guys. I will take the time to try some positioning before jumping on a subwoofer. Just wanted to make sure that I had the capability. The m80's are in a 20' x 25' room with lots of cd's, tapes and lp's (not exactly soft surfaces) along the walls and a hard ceramic floor. (Took the area rugs up until the puppy's house broken) Not exactly conducive to warm bass. My speakers before this were a pair of old bi-amped Infinity monsters with 12" dual voice coil woofers, so I'm used to some deep bass.
Thanks again,
Scott
