I recently purchased an AVIA DVD calibration. I am wondering how I can adjust my ind. speaker volume to the DVD pink noise. My reciever Integra 8.3 has it's own calibration with it's own pink noise but it does not have a lot including the subwoofer. This is the only place I know where I can get to ind. speaker volume but then I can't use the Avia disc. Any suggestions where I can access the ind volume without going through my recievers iternal calibration test?

I downloaded an Integra 8.3 manual and found the menu options for manually adjusting speaker levels (Speaker Setup => Level Calibration). If your subwoofer is enabled in the receiver it should appear in that menu so you should be able to send pink noise to the sub and adjust its level just like any other speaker.

If the sub does not appear double-check your speaker settings -- maybe the sub is turned off somewhere ?

I messed with a friend's Integra and found the same thing. His was not the 8.3, but every time you went in to the speaker level menu and selected a speaker, it automatically started the internal tone. Avia would be "cut off".

You can't do it through the OSD menu with Avia. I'll describe what we did as best as I can remember. It was several months ago. We went into the OSD speaker level menu and set all of the speakers to 0dB as a starting point. Then, we selected the DVD player as the input and started Avia. While the Avia channel level tests were running, we were able to use the channel level adjustment function of the remote to set the "temporary" speaker levels (these are the ones that are lost when you put the unit into standby mode). After that, we copied the settings down, went into the OSD, and set the levels.

A few days after that, he called me and said that he found a note in the manual that said that there was a key sequence on the remote that you can use to overwrite the "permanent" speaker levels in the OSD setup menu with the temporary settings for the input you are watching. He said the note was really hard to find, and nowhere near the section talking about how to set the speaker levels in the OSD. I just called him, but he isn't in town this weekend. Unfortunately, I have to tell you to RTFM. It's in there.

Good luck,

I guess the easy answer is a variant of that :

- go into the OSD and set all the speakers to 0dB, ignoring the test tones

- play the Avia disk and note the SPL for each channel -- some will be a couple of dB higher than others

- pick a speaker with an SPL "in the middle" and subtract that reading from all the others -- let's say you use center as a reference, then you might get -2dB front left, -3dB front right, +1dB surround left etc...

- go into the OSD and adjust the settings accordingly, ignoring the pink noise again

- run Avia and see how you did... hopefully all channels will play at the same SPL now
