Tonight its' Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. Very tasty and I've heard good things about the other IPAs. Figure I'll work my way up to the other two.

120-minute IPA is quite pricey, but oh. my. lordy. is it tasty. Think of it more as a liqueur. \:\)

Last night it was 2 Below by New Belgium Brewing and Belhaven Scottish Ale. It was my first taste of 2 Below and I thought that it tasted a lot like Fat Tire but a little smoother. The Belhaven always has been and continues to be my Numero Uno.

I'll echo what Peter said about the Dogfish Head beers. Very viscous, loaded with hop flavor and bitterness, and just plain delicious. I don't know that the 120 is worth the premium for me, but it is something to experience.

Ah, it is a good time of year for a Wee Heavy! I like Scottish Ales; they express the malt profile in such seductive ways. I tend towards the alcohol and additional hopping present in the larger styles - I like how the peat is balanced out a bit more. While it is somewhat unlikely you would find them in Texas, we have a number of very delicious examples brewed in Washington, including Hale's Wee Heavy and Silver City Fat Bastard (except I think they just call it "Fat" now after losing a trademark infringement battle with a *wine*).

Cheers!

JohnK, I'm more of a "bitter beer face" kind of guy.

A local bar here has monthly beer and food pairings where they will pair various beers from a particular brewer with a 5 or 6 course menu.

They also have a representative from the brewery show up to talk about the various beers, while the chef talks about the pairings.

2 mos, ago I went to the Great Lakes Brewery tasting. The food was excellent, and it was great to hear aboout how the different beers were brewed. Plenty to eat and drink all for $45. Plus each guest got a souvenier glass.

Next Wednesday is New Belgium, and I am looking forward to it! Below is the link to the Beer/Food pairings.

My local guy, Mainstreet Brewery in Corona :), seems to manage the different strains alright. He makes stylistically correct beers: a tripel that I'm not fond of, hefe, various seasonal lagers, and the standard ale line up.

I seem to recall the guys at BJs telling me they had to go nuclear on the whole place before. A problem obviated by their move to have each site make only one beer and then ship to the other sites.

I remember your post about it a while back and it being more like a liqueur. Yeah, it's pricey for just a four pack, but it's worth it to try it at least once, right?

I think so!

I've actually never even seen it sold in 4 packs, only single 12oz bottles. And they're anywhere from $8 to $12 each.

Place near my house has it in 4/pks. Forget the price, but I remembered this thread.

Haven't tried it yet. \:\)
