M3 vs. M22

I recently bought the M3 and M22 to compare them to each other and my current speakers. I thought for sure I would like the M22s better (they are more expensive after all). To my surprise I preferred the M3s. While the M22s seemed more detailed, especially in the upper octaves, the M3s just sounded smooth. Even though I have a pair of $900 Dynaudio 52s which are clearly the better speaker (greater detail, definition and speed) I found myself enjoying ther music more on the M3s. Vocals were especially nice and inviting. The M22s on the other hand sounded clear but harder. Does this perhaps have to do with the crossovers of the different speakers, or have the 22s just not broken in? Should I give the M22s another chance or send them back? I'm definately keeping the M3s and maybe ordering another pair to replace the Dynaudios.

Hi Scott;

Glad to hear you like the M3s. The advantages to the M22 are things like higher power handling, higher room sensitivity and anechoic sensitivity. Sonically the differences should be quite minor. If you prefer the M3s and they work well for you, though, you should definitely stick with those. Let us know, we'd be happy to do the exchange.

Amie

I have them both and the 22tl sounds more life like in the midrange and can play louder, so its overall a better package ,I think.

This can sometimes happen depending on your electronics and more so your room environment. The M3s work well for you and I would suggest staying with them, they are a very good speaker.
