Hi, I am a complete novice when it comes to speakers. I became interested in Axiom speakers based on the positive word of mouth and the 30-day trial policy.

I don't know which model to choose from in the Axiom line-up. My room is 116x136 (W x L), and it's carpeted. This is not a dedicated listening room, as I have a bed and a desk in it. I want speakers that have decent bass extension but are not boomy. I'd rather have the bass taut, instead of slow and muddy. I also want speakers that can throw a decent soundstage and are free of sibilance.

So based on what I've said, do you Axiom-owners think that the floorstanding models in the Axiom line are overkill for my room? Should I just stick with stand-mounted bookshelves instead? Because the last thing I want is a pair of speakers that will overwhelm my room.

BTW, this will be a strictly 2-channel setup: so no surrounds, centers, or a subwoofer. As for amplification, it will either be my 30WPC Class-A Pass Labs Aleph 3 or some kind of solid-state amp with 100wpc+ output. My source is a Lavry DA10 D/A convertor.

M60s.

Pretty much exactly what you are asking for IMHO. The bass is definately not boomy or muddy, but has good extension. It is very accurate so if you are used to "coloring" you bass deeper than the recording meant it to be you might be disappointed.

Took me awhile to get used to accurate speakers, but now I could never go back.

I would agree about the 60s and you may hear from some 50s owners as well. You won't get as much bass extension with the bookshelves.

You will find the Axiom line accurate to the source material.

I'll echo what the other guys have said. I have the discontinued M40s and they work very well in my small room (11 x 11). You may have to play around with placement for tower speakers to help tame some of the lower frequencies. M3s may also be an option. I'm running some bookshelf speakers with a similar frequency response to the M3s and am getting a nice bass response. Of course, when you factor in the price of stands (which can be found cheap) you are nearer the price of floorstanders.

I think M50s would be a fair choice as well. Not quite as large as the M60s, and a tad more rolled off at the top end. Maybe.
