I don't believe my Denon 2805 allows you to adjust the main volume when running the receiver test tones. Maybe I'll have to dig out a calibration disk.

After today I'll disregard the test tones from my H/K reciever.

This afternoon I moved stuff around and thought I'd do a quick calibration using the receiver's test tones and was perplexed as to why the sub's dB's were reading so high ... so I turned the volume level down on the sub to match the other speakers 75 db level and whenever I put in a movie to check things out (Master & Commander) I thought the bass sounded way low, I then re-calibrated using the Avia disc and saw that the sub was actually almost 10 db lower than the rest of the system. Played the scenes once again and things sounded much better.

Should have known better.

Hmm. I use another calibration disk that I can't remember right now (begins with a D or something) and I always calibrate the sub 10 dB higher than the mains.

For my Ht system I calibrate my sub at 75db along with the rest of my system. Remember there is a compisation chart when using the RatShack meter. On my music system I go - 3db when using a 31.5HZ test tone from the Hsu disc that was supplied with my sub.

Hey Wid, I'm not sure those alterations apply to the newer analog or digital meters, only the older analog?

It has been a while since I did some Google searching. But back some time ago I was searching for Radio Shack compensation adjustments or something like that and I thought I found where they are not all the same. I signed up on HomeTheaterShack.com some time ago as I've been experimenting with their free download Room EQ Wizzard, which is pretty cool if you have pc to do the measurements. The software has 3 different RS Correction values, depending on which meter your using. Even the older one appears to be different than the SVS website. hmm

In the instructions I got with my Hsu sub it says to add 3 db @ 31.5HZ. This is the same as what the SVS website says. I think I'll stick with what these two companies, who should know a thing or two about bass, has to say.
