Just dont know which models to look at 1st.
All suggestions welcome.

All will be paired with M60s, QS8s,VP100 and a Mits 57 inch DLP rear projection TV.

If good prices can be found I'll be upgrading to a VP150.

Current setup......

Thanks for your input in advance.

Is that before of after you're done looking at the two models in the picture?

Blu-ray players have finally started to drop in price (Sony, Sanyo), but as much as I hate to say it the PS3 is still one of the best offers out there, and until Sept 30th you can get 5 free Blu-ray movies with a purchase of a PS3.

I would agree. I don't use the PS3 as much as I should, but it's probably the best deal, considering it's also a game console and media hub.

The PS3 is still the only BR player that supports all the LPCM audio formats and video formats (including 1080P/24). It is HDMI 1.3, so I suspect that it will eventually support DTS-M and DD-HD as well. I’m continually impressed with the frequency of firmware updates Sony pushes to it, and it is by far…the fastest loading of all HD and BR players. My el’cheapo Bluetooth to IR gadget works wonderfully, so I now can use my programmable remote with it. Not having a discrete on/off remote function bothers me, but I’ve learned to deal with it.

I keep watching for a stand alone BR player to buy, but every time one comes out, there is always something that it misses. I absolutely HATE having a game machine on my rack, but there just isn’t anything that can compare to it yet.

One down side to the PS3 is SD video up conversion. It is now pretty good with the latest firmware update, but the Samsung with Reon is better (forgot which model). But, the Samsung does not support all the video / audio formats the PS3 does.

For receiver, I thought you were buying an Onkyo 875?? Or was that someone else??

I’m not a big Onkyo fan, but the 875 and 905 have me thinking differently. I would choose the 905 because it has added noise reduction over the 875, more Reon configuration options (which you will appreciate), and it is Audysey Pro compatible.

Or, if separates appeal to you, the Onkyo Pro 885 pre/pro and Integra 9.8 are looking very attractive at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, the 905 has more control over the Reon than either Pre/Pro. You would loose balanced outputs if you go with the AVR’s over the Pre/Pros, but who really needs them anyway?? Unless you want to set up your amps in a bedroom closet on the other end of your home, balanced don’t do much for you….IMHO

Not me.......I have been considering the 805 but was just wondering what else was out there.
Any good news on the newest Denons??
As far as the PS3, I just thought one of the stand alones would be "better"......I guess I thought wrong.
Maybe I'll start my buying with one of those later this afternoon.
I'm just about gamed out. Between the Wii, my new "Funhouse" pinball machine and "World of Warcraft" I cant seem to find time to clean house.

Which games would you get 1st???
Any good flying games?

Brady, you haven't said what features for the new receiver interest you the most, but the Onkyo 875 which has been lab tested and reviewed in the October S&V, should be considered, along with the even more capable, but also more expensive 905, as mentioned by Mike.

I don’t know much about the Denons. The only reason I’ve been keeping up on the Onkyo’s is because I plan to go with separates, some day, and the two I mentioned are ones that I’m keeping an eye on, which usually leads to discussions comparing them all including the receivers…. You know how those forum threads go… One big complaint that the separates owners have is the lack of Reon configurations the separates have verses the 905.

As far as games go, I don’t play games. My 14 year old son does though. I picked up a couple car racing games and Resistance, Fall on Man. I don’t dare start playing because RFoM on an eight foot screen in High Def and 7.1 is wayyyy cool. RFoM is a discrete 7.1 channel game, which is why I bought it, so I could test my receiver. It’s quite eerie to hear these monsters coming at you from behind to the right or left and at the same time get shot at from the sides and directly from the front of you. I’m not sure, but this game may be the only true 7.1 channel media content available.

I like the features of the 805 I think......but with all the new features out there....I'm not sure.
Anything in the 875 that the 805 doesnt have that i should be concerned with?
I'm trying to keep the price under $1100.00.
