Heh... you're tempting me to roll my work laptop back to XP. But my boss would kill me. He's running Vista on his desktop now, poor guy.

Other than this one issue I have been relatively impressed with Vista. It doesn't seem to be as bad as most are making out to be. I am almost thiking about upgrades for the rest of the PCs in my house....almost.

heh heh, just wrote in another post about every hard core PC friend I have rolling back to XP. Trust me, you won't be alone.

I wonder how much of the problem is we have become accustomed to how XP does things and that Vista just does them differently and we have to agjust to it? Naw, it's just not meant to be out yet. SP1 should fix alot of issues like it did with XP.

I know, it's that computers need to be broken in to be able to run Vista at optimum levels.

Could be but to me, it seems to be a compatibility issue rather than interface complaints. Too many things just don't work 100% on it yet. However, as you point out, that will (should) get better with time.

I can see me changing someday when I need software that becomes VISTA only, but until then, the pain is not worth the gain.

I am presently building 2 new PC's and am trying to figure out if the pain of compatability, which I have yet to encounter, is enough deterent to keep me from installing Vista on these new PCs or do I go through hours of updating to catch up with an XP install.....and I have SP2 on disc.

XP just worked well on rollout... so far it seems Vista doesn't. And to be fair, it's not just MS that does that... MacOS X just didn't work at all for 6 months... until uh, "Marmot" or "Platypus".

I was working in a production environment then... and "I know your Mac is like... crashing to the point of having to pull the plug, but... whoa, dude... did you check out Garage Band?" was NOT the kind of customer service I was looking for.

I remember XP having a few issues on roll out but nothing like Vista.

I think they had really intended Vista to be strictly 64 bit but then realized that would kill them so they then cross developed it to 32 bit and in doing so mangled it for both versions.

I kind of hope they completely break away with the next major Windows release. I'm willing to give up compatibility for all brand new code that works and works well. They really need a fresh start. And we'll see what operating systems they're competing with at that point.
