I'm looking at buying the W22's, VP150 v2, and EP175 sub and was wondering if anyone has close to that ? I'm more concerned about The W22's and the sub. Thanks.

Well, I have M22's Vp100 in one system and M80s Vp150 and 3 QS8s in another sorry no sub right now but I don't think any one has anything less than the EP350 in town. I presently have a Paradigm DSP 3100 on loan till Tuesday, so if you can make it by during the morning on Monday, you can have a listen to it as well.

Did you check the audition thread at the top of this area? If you see someone in your are, it is best to send them a PM. You can also send a PM to Andrea or Amie at Axiom as well.

Otherwise, someone should chime in. My guess is you won't find any W22's up there, but the m22's pretty much sound the same.

Yup. I get to hear them later today! I can't wait. I hope to have enough time for a quick comparison to the Paradigm DSP-3100 I have on loan from a store here in town.

Yeah, I have the M22's with a STF-3 sub and QS8 surrounds. Not using a center channel yet, but the VP150 is on the eventual purchase list.

Depends on the size of room and other factors, but I bet most here would suggest minimum EP350 and probably EP500 for sub. If nobody has hooked you up yet with an audition let me know.

I'll probably be bugging many of you for audition in the coming weeks.

I'm planning an HT upgrade when budget allows (probably fall) and Axiom is on my short list.

Plans would be for basically the Midi Home Theatre (M2s, VP100, QS4s and EP125). Even though that's already pushed by initial budget plans higher than desired (I had hoped to get 5.1 for ~$1,000) I wonder if M22s and VP150 should be goals.

Anyways, expect PMs requesting auditions and I look forward to audio sampling delights.

Rick, tell us your room dimensions (LxWxH) and will this be for mostly HT, or music or 60-40 HT, etc. It will help with some suggestions.

You can always do things as budget allows instead of all at one time and possibly getting something a bit small for your space. I started with just M22's and QS8's, then added a sub when I got more $$ and am now still 4.1 and waiting for my VP150 to float to the top of the priority list.

So far, a family trip to San Diego and full bathroom renovation has priority over my VP150. \:\(

Welcome to the boards Rick.

I agree with Al(ctown), buy what's right for the room when money allows. Buying something that might be too small only hinders the experience, although the M22s, M3's can fill a pretty big room without too much trouble.

I have M22s, VP100, VP150, M80s and QS8s. I am the odd man out as Daytime hours during the weekdays work best for me for auditions and anytime on weekends.

I'm going to put a diagram together to help in receiving advice.

But the room's 16x20 with 16x6 of that beyond the HT zone (ie. current speakers make sound for 16x14) which puts TV and main couch centered in the 16x14; off to the right (beyond the non-used space) is a wall of glass for my walk-out basement; couch is against the back wall; to the left of the couch is a funny zone as it is where the stairs go up (so back 5x4 of 16x14 is dead zone).

I need to get everything at once as I am replacing an old JVC HTIB which had a decent 10" 100w sub and tiny little 5 speakers that still makes great sound (my wife can't understand why I talk of upgrade).

I really enjoy DTS 5.1 today and can not go backwards to less speakers. So my next step is buy a receiver and 6 speakers in one shot.

The trade-up program seems to me to be a good way to start with really, really good 5.1 (and waaaaay better than the JVC HTIB) and enhance piece by piece to great rather than start where you want to end and only have 3 pieces of a surround sound system.

Looking forward to visiting several houses for auditions, and biased opinions vs. Def Tech, Paradigm, Energy, B&W.

Cheers,

Rick

I work from my house so I can readily schedule a mid-day visit.

What part of the city are you in?

...forgot this part, 95%+ for HT and most of the music is on DVD; although with the proposed new setup I may find myself playing my CDs more often too.

That's what I found. Went from 80-20 HT to 75-25 Music overnight when I got a decent set of speakers! Why waste time watching TV or movies when you can listen to all this suddenly great music?

Good speakers are a real wake up call.

I am not sure if others agree with me. But if you're going for the QS4's and not the QS8's, maybe consider downsizing your surrounds to M2s, and put that extra money towards a better sub, you'll need it to fill all that space.

I would recommend the EP350v3. Further, if you can stretch your budget, M22 mains would be beneficial as well. I setup my father-in-law with M22s, VP150, M2 surrounds, and a EP350v3 in a rather large room, and he loves the system. Add to that, that I have heard the M2s as surrounds (placed slightly behind the main seating area, and angled toward the sweet spot) and they sound pretty stinkin good.

I agree with Hutzal on the speaker selection. My eventual home for my system is downstairs in a similar sized room, but with open basement to another large space.

Alan Loftt suggested M22 mains, VP150 and QS8's with a EP350, but if I wanted more bass, then a EP500 and if I wanted to play some music at E-LEVEN....then M60 mains.

I went with the M22's and got a great deal on a STF-3 from HSU and it works great.

I's stick with the 22's and VP150 for mains and then if you need to save $$, do it on the surround. A good sub for movies is important, but if you arent picky about it for music, then you can get good subs from SVS or HSU that arent as musical, but go BOOM! pretty good.
