Well, I'm lucky enough to live in Austin, and I've had 24 hours to recover from SXSW. Here's who I saw from 3/12-3/16 (with a few comments/notes):
Steve Poltz
Rocco DeLuca
Gustavo Alberto
Circo
Salvador Santana
Joe Ely
Back Door Slam (These kids are amazing --awesome blues/rock)
Jesca Hoop
Howlin Rain
Ceci Bastida
A Weather
Dead Confederate (Opening for REM -- LOUD and rocking)
Girl in a Coma
Rupa and the April Fishes (Eclectic but engaging)
Murs (Great hip-hop, funny, and great intelligence)
Willie Nelson (A legend. Not my usual cup of tea, but still great)
Tift Merritt
Christian Scott
Old 97s
Maya Azucena (Wow, this woman can sing)
Upground (Every SXSW I have a "find", and this is it this year! Amazing blend of reggae, ska & cumbia. Think Sublime & 311, but run through a latino filter. Nice young kids who are incredibly tight.)
Vampire Weekend (the next big thing, and they really were good)
Jim Bianco (quirky voice and great songs: think Tom Waits)
Cary Brothers
How do you even make sense of so many different artists? I don't know! It was amazing.
