titles says it all... does m80 sound better then m60 or is the m80 just louder? Cause I got the M60 under the impression the m80 is just much louder but I just can't get rid of the feeling I might have made some mistake...

Ahhhhh, upgradeitis, I have listened to both side by side and have found the M80 to sound like the M60 does when it is played quite loud, only the M80 sounds like this at all levels low or high SPL. The M80 has a more open/forward sound the M60 doesn't achieve till it gets to higher SPLs, IMO. There are other more subtle things like bass response and such but for me it was the forward sound at all times I liked.

Something else you have to consider is the M80 is 4 ohm speaker and not all amps like this lower load, so thinking about the M80 might be a moot point if you amp won't drive them.

I didnt really completely get that but... basically the M80 and M60 sounds identical at high volumes but the M80 is more detailed at a lower volume and has a different "style" of sound?

Anyways, Thank you very much. You calmed me down a lot. I thought that the difference between m80 and m60 would be like night and day.

PS: Does Axiom offer a upgrade program?

I have owned both m60's and m80's. There are differences, which would be expected with any speaker company when comparing the top dog versus his little brother. The m80's are a bit more detailed which would be expected with dual tweeters/midrange woofers. Also, the m80's go a bit lower which would be expected with the larger cabinet, etc.

However, the m60's are great speakers that will pay as loud as most people can handle. The m80's are the top of the line and are capable of handling lots more power, however, most people will never have the power or roomsize to justify this volume.

A lot has to do with what receiver/amp your driving the speakers with, as to how the speaker will sound at higher volumes if the receiver is not clipping.

I would not say the m60's and 80's have an identical sound, but similar. They share the same drivers, etc. No the difference is not night and day, but there is a difference.

Yes, Axiom offers upgrades, your trade in value will depend on how long you've owned them.

Upgrade provided you have an appropriate receiver. You won't regret it especially if you listen at a half watt like me.

Vysis. I just spend 4 hours at Axiom listeing to m22s, m60s and m80s.

I started the day at around 75-80 db listening, not that loud, and was up to 85-90 db by the end of the 4 hours. The M80s sounded better at both spl levels.

I heard it a lot with cymbals, clearly with male vocals, though not as much difference as with the cymbals, and on the bottom end with bass.

Now if you really want to hear them puppies open up, try M80s vp150, qs8s and an ep350. Dire Staits live at the BBC. WOW!!

Everybodys ears and tastes are different, but to me the M80 is distinctly better.

I can't believe I'm pimping the M80 more than Jason! The shame...
