Hi all - having the family into town this weekend and need to get some reference BluRays ready to show off. ;\)

I have several decent SD DVDs with good audio, but I'd like something with great video AND audio to use as demo DVDs.

Recommendations for CDs / SACDs with great audio tracks are also appreciated.

I've already got the $6 Orff CD in my shopping cart thanks to recommendations in another thread.

Thanks!

Jason, in that other thread I added on a comment about the Muti Carmina Burana, including that it's available at Tower(lower prices, slower service)for $4.38. I'll add some on here to get over the $25 for free shipping. To be continued.

Well, you certainly shouldn't shy away from these great CDs available at bargain prices: The Planets($5.99) ; Stravinsky collection($7.17); Roman Festivals($6.99) ; Swan Lake($5.99) ; Rachmaninoff collection(3 CDs, $15.99) .

Thanks! I should mention I have the Eagles Hell Freezes over DVD and love it, so the recommendations I'm looking for here are primarily BluRays with great sound. \:\) I won't shy away from great CDs either, but I've been through some of the historical threads on those and found some great recommendations already. I've had a little harder time finding good BluRay info in the historical threads.

As people have mentioned elsewhere, Pixar on Blu-ray is fantastic. Ratatouille and Cars are both a lot of fun. I've enjoyed audio and video on other Blu-ray discs, but I'm still digesting which ones I like the most. Most of them are better than any DVD for showing off a system, though. I haven't tried to demo my system for a while, but I've used Apocalypto on Blu-ray, and I have to say I enjoyed No Country For Old Men on Blu-ray, too. Some of the gunshots are very satisfying. For more LFE, try X-Men: The Last Stand.

Man, I still have Blu-rays I have yet to watch.

Cars and Ratatouille on Blu-Ray are great showpieces. The Pirates of the Caribbean BRDs are good as well.

There's also a good list here for punishing bass: http://www.svsound.com/questions-faqs.cfm#moviedemos

Really depends what you love. Whatever it is, your speakers will improve it. IMO, don't buy movies you'll hate, tho, just because they have a few demo moments (*cough* Aeon Flux *cough*).

I have seen/heard these and the picture and sound quality (HD sound formats) are high quality. The content quality is subjective though.

Thanks to the recommendations here, I picked up a handful last night from Amazon... they'll be here Friday.

Dave Matthews BluRay
Eric Clapton Crossroads DVD set
Blackhawk Down (my own addition - I've heard there are some amazing helicopter scenes)
I Am Legend BluRay (I'll post the review I read in the next message)

Orff - Carmina Burana CD (recommended in another thread)

Thanks for all the recommendations. If anyone has more, don't be shy. I'll put them on my wish list once I tire of the first bunch!

From Blu-Ray.com:

I Am Legend - 5/5 stars for the TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack. An excerpt from the review:

 Quote:
I was also blown away by the quality of the bass. LFE effects are not as powerful as they are in other recent Blu-ray discs, like those heard in Independence Day or Hitman, but they are presented here so cleanly, effectively, efficiently, and naturally that I left the experience more than impressed. I Am Legend definitely proves that bass doesn't have to be completely raucous and loud to be effective. Make no mistake, it'll rattle the windows a few times, but it absolutely never oversteps its bounds, recreating a very realistic sounding--and feeling--experience. Bass rumbles with clarity and presence, on cue, and sounds like every good soundtrack should, reproducing lows as only the best tracks can, and as the rest only wish they could. What few gunshots there are in the movie come mostly from Neville’s M4 carbine, and they are appropriately powerful and loud, and they reverberate with the authority and punch heard and felt in real life. A bridge collapse in chapter 18 rocked the listening room and my senses, as did a series of exploding claymores in chapter 23. While not as aggressive as some other mixes, I Am Legend earns a top score for producing a strikingly realistic, horrifying, and well-mixed soundtrack that is one of my favorites yet on the format, and is also definitely demonstration-worthy material.

I can't wait to hear it (and see it, I haven't seen the movie yet, and have heard it's great).
