Absolutely fascinating. I posted a link to that sub here a while back and it was greeted with scepticism.
I wonder how many of these things he sells in a year?

Very interesting, Charles. Apparently the 105dB level at 6Hz didn't cause an appearance of the "brown note" syndrome among those present at the recording session. It'll also be interesting to see how the point Dr. Rubinson raised at the end will be answered.

Very interesting! Thanks for posting this CV. On one of the replies there's a link to a video of 'Cameron' playing the Trinity organ. It's a must see... impressive foot work... and the goofiest looking slippers ever!! :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQxyQktNFwc

yeah, I wonder how it works too... Kinda of makes sense to use a fan since low frequencies 'moves' a lot of air. My guess is that the fan blades vibrates somehow or the fan is mounted on a regular woofer piston... dunno gotta check the website.

Find his website. He posts a lot of info on the physics/theory of this sub.

This interweb thing is awesome :P Here's an excerpt of how it works from his website: A motor controller and electric motor rotate a set of blades at a constant speed. The TRW-17 Rotary Woofer pitch mechanism uses a conventional voice coil and magnet assembly. This is connected to your amplifier to pitch blades in proportion to the applied audio signal. As the blades pitch while rotating a pressure wave is generated, the degree of pitch controls the amplitude of the pressure wave. Air is allowed to transition through the blades. Thus oscillating the pitch of the blades creates sound while they are rotating .

Because you can. Many would ask why you need your room to shake. Its certainly unconventional, but it must work to some degree or it would not even have been considered for the recording that started this thread. If it did not work reasonably well, I am willing to bet that both the recording company and the artist would have noticed. It would be interesting to see how this device measures in conventional sub testing. Its kinda funny the way we as a species react to the unconventional. I remember this guy by the name of Valekovski who had this theory back in the 40s/50s that mars sent out radio waves. Everybody called him a nut case (and he certainly had some other 'unconventional' beliefs. It took the rest of the world 15 years to catch up with him. Maybe in 15 years every builder will be putting one of these into new houses.

Just do a search for "Junk Jiggling Bass" - I was "outted" long ago.
The thumpy bits are usually an indicator of power, while the sizzly bits are usually an indicator of build quality and they give you signal separation.
Stradivarius doesn't command a premium because they design really LOUD violins, but because of their tone. That's how *I* look at it.

Ah, yes, the furries and plushies.
Didn't the Midfest FurFest happen at the same hotel that Negative Orange trashed so bad during their very first tour?
