I listen to 2-channel (50%) of the time and home theater (50%). I sit about eight feet (8'x20' room) from the T.V. and the speakers ( I am not moving for at least 2 years. I want to make sure the m50s are not too large for my room). When I listen to 2-channel I do not enjoy the way the subwoofer is incorporated into the system. What speakers would be best for me? Presently, my receiver is denon avr 2801. Would the best route to take be adding a pre-amp to power the m50s (left and right) and keep the denon to power the sub and rears and center. Then when listening to 2-channel I will have the bass I want from the fronts and when I listen to dolby digital I will just calibrate everything else. Now, whenever I listen to music I manually adjust the subwoofer anyway because I do not like the default setting I use for home theater for music. Also, I am willing to get a new amp at a resonable price. My Cd player is the cambridge 500se. Suggestions please

I just bought a pair of 50's. My previous post concerned my preference for two speakers and straight -line amplification.
I advise using as clean and as powerful an amplifier you can.
After nearly a week-my speakers-are almost broken in.
I can sense the bass content-and I am hearing more inner detail in the mid-range.
Within 20-40 hours more listening -they should be sonically balanced-and completly broken in.
Are the 50's right for me !
My room is almost exactly a match to yours-and the sound-at this stage -is sweet, rich, deep and clear.
It's up to you what other elements you add.
But I am satisfied with my set-up.

The M50's are a great speaker, don't worry about them being too loud or too soft for your room. That's what the volume control is for.

As for the amp required. Isn't that denon 110 wpc? That's more than enough unless you like to listen VERY loud. I'm using a 1602 (70 wpc) to power M3's, and soon to power M22's and VP100. My dad's technics from the 70's at 25 wpc powered the M3's no problem, as well.
