I’ve spent much of the weekend playing “Fallout 3.” I’m disliking this game less now that I’m growing more accustomed to it, however I know it’s never coming close to Oblivion for enjoyment or re-playability for me.
The biggest improvement is I’ve learned to save often. Twice more I’ve gotten stuck between to objects and been unable to move or fast travel out because I was inside. Some other things that have improved are just learning the interface and locations better so I’m not always spazzing to hit the right button or trying to find things. The local area map’s for interiors suck. Their really poor compared to the interior maps in Oblivion.
Figuring out that V.A.T.S. sucks for long range shooting. It might give me say a 13% hit chance for a real long range shot to the head that I can manually get 8 kill shots out of 10 with. V.A.T.S. is way better at close in shooting than me. Funny that mirrors real life where if I can see it I can pretty much hit it with a rifle. OTOH with a pistol I could probably hit somewhere in Arizona from where I’m sitting.
Still not liking the overall blandness of the game’s look. I liked the look of the armor in games like Oblivion and Mass Effect, whereas “Fallout 3” just looks boring. Hopefully I find more reasons to enjoy playing but I’m afraid that once I start running out of interesting perks to select the game is just going to bog down and I may lose interest before even finishing the main quest line.
