He's a friend I made via Twitter who works for Adobe in Seattle. I met him last February at Macworld.

After Mass yesterday the other male member of the choir and I were discussing the Super Bowl at the social and somehow he happened to bring up the Bud Light commercials. I described this forum and the views that Tom and other connoisseurs here have of that beverage. Being a PhD in Physics and apparently also something of a beer drinker, he was somewhat intrigued.

He requests your suggestions on something "bitter, dark and yeasty". He didn't add "cheap", but I might throw that in. Since I'm still perplexed by "More taste or less taste?", I wasn't of much help in his quest, but I trust that you can do better.

Oh the possibilities. OH! The possibilities. I've got five right now---just for the first sentence!

Bitter, dark, and yeasty, eh? Definitely have him try Schneider-Weisse Aventinus. It's a widely-available German import so it should be fairly easy to find.

I don't know anybody who dislikes this beer. (I suppose it's only fair to note that I immediately cut off all ties with people who don't like this beer.

See! I knew those three words would eventually lead to a German 3-way!

Aventinus is a good suggestion.

I really hesitate to recommend anything very bitter or very dark for someone coming from a Bud Light mindset.

How about the widely-available New Belgium 1554?

Session Black Lager or some other Schwarzbier might be nice.

I think that Deschutes Black Butte Porter is a very approachable beer. St. Peter's Old Style Porter from England.

Ayinger Ur-Weisse or another quality dunkelweizen.

Beer with character costs more than Bud Light.

I think I'd better avoid that beer.
