I tried searching for previous posts concerning the debate between direct radiating vs difussion for the rear center speakers....but did not find any feedback.

I have a pair of the QS8's as the rears in my Atlantic Tech speaker set up and love them. So I am selling the AT's and going all Axioms.

My belief has been that the rear center portion of the soundtrack lends itself to the quads. Since more of the effects are ambiant and not directional. But I would like feedback from others. I have read the THX Ultra II set-up calls for direct rad. in the center rears...thoughts?

Thanks
Ron

RBoster,

I'm not sure using about direct radiating for the center rear.
I have tried the following:

I tried using an M3 of mine as a center back at my friends' place who has a 6.1 receiver (denon), and I didn't like it as much as a VP150 in the back. I found the M3 to not disperse the sound as well as the VP150. If budget is of concern, maybe you could try a VP100. The movie we used to test was the Gladiator DVD.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the input. I spent sometime going manually through some of the forums. The general feelings are the QS8 will allow for more options in placement. Since this may be a concern in the future...this is probably the way to go for me.

As far as, using a actual center in a 6.1 set-up, I know that was an original school of thought. But, with a Lexicon Logic set-up, the use of a center maybe overdoing it considering the "type" of info that is steered towards the center rears. I appreciate the insights to your experience and testing.
