Your response had me feeling guilty, Tom, so tonight I took my Denver hosts out to The Fallen Rock Tap Room, where there were about 80 beers on tap. The menu was separated into regions: Colorado, United States, and Elsewhere.

I started with an Odell (of CO) Bourbon Barrel Stout. It had a boozy aroma, but was quite smooth, almost like a chocolate-vanilla shake. my next choice was Russian River Pliny the Elder. I've heard a lot about this IPA and it totally lived up to its hype. So balanced, so smooth, so creamy and tasty. My last selection was Odell 5 Barrel, a solid but fairly unremarkable pale ale.

We left there but didn't want to call it a night, so we stopped by a liquor store and bought some excellent beers. Right now we're drinking Dogfish Head Pangaea. We're saving the Deschutes Jubel 2010 and Mirror Mirror 2009 Reserve for the weekend.

I recently picked up a six pack of the Odell 5 Barrel and I agree with you. Didn't really do anything to stand out.

Let me know how you like the Jubel 2010. I have a couple bottles, but that "best after sometime in 2011" on the label has - so far - prevented me from enjoying them.

I know you weren't teasing me, but your post did result in a fine evening. Today, I'm taking a short break from beer. I'll wait until 4pm to have one.

My wife and I had an epic bar-hopping date last night. I dropped the kids off for a sleepover and then we walked all over town (with and without the dog). At our dinner stop, we shared a bottle of Saison du Buff (3-way brewed by Stone, Dogfish Head, and Victory) and a bottle of Juxtaposition (3-way brewed by Stone, BrewDog and Cambridge).

The Saison is brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. It may be the most precisely balanced beer I've ever had. It was amazing. The Juxtaposition is a "black pilsner" with 100 IBUs, 10%abv, and a flavor to match. It was also amazing. I snapped a pic, of course.

We brought the dog along for part of the date. Here she is after we brought her home before heading out again, grateful for getting a couple pizza crusts.

What is your ideal beer that you enjoy drinking all night on any occasion? I'm not just talking light beers (but it can be if it's to your liking), but one that you can actually drink several of, enjoying every bottle, without it feeling too heavy. I know nothing about beer. I just know I don't like anything skunky, bitter, or too fruity. Just like a wine cooler, I could only handle one of those on any given night. I admit, I'm more of a light beer drinker. Anyway, I was just curious because my brother's all time favorite beer is Honker's Ale by Goose Island. They are a brewery out of Chicago. He loves it...says it goes down smooth, isn't too heavy, and is more enjoyable then drinking light beer all night.
