I've watched the Swedish trilogy, and have the English adaptation of the book on my Kindle, although I've only started the first one. The movies were OK, but what I've read of the book, blows the Swedish films away. Fincher hasn't seen the Swedish films, he's only read the English versions of the novels. So I'm hoping he does his usual amazing job.
I even ended up liking Panic Room after going back nearly a decade later. Maybe I just wasn't ready for it at the time.

I've heard so many people say they didn't like Panic Room that I was hesitant to watch it for the longest time. Turns out, I though it an excellent movie and ended up buying it. Is it just Jodie Foster? Do people not like her?
CV, I agree, The Social Network was also very good. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was creepy and tried too hard to be something it wasn't--a deep and important story.

Last night, instead of rewatching Panic Room I rewatched the last James Bond movie Quantum of Solace. I want to like this movie more than I did, but it's missing something. One of the major problems I have is that the action scenes are hard to follow. The opening car chase scene has all the right elements and a fantastic build up. . . . unfortunately I have no idea what actually takes place because the editing is way too fast and choppy. This kind of filmmaking really bugs me--it feels cheap. Just about the time I figure out what I'm looking at with the extreme close ups and jerky hand held cameras the next frantic and jerky picture is up on the screen, but there is little continuity and/or visual cues to help me piece together what is occurring.
I can tell exciting stuff is happening, but I am left more bewildered than exhilarated. It's like someone going into the kitchen and throwing all the pots and pans onto the floor while turning the lights on and off really fast.

Ha ha, nice comparison. Yeah, that kind of filmmaking CAN be effective, but you're right, you still need to be able to make sense of it. I only watched Quantum of Solace once, but I may give it another try, too, just to see if I get the same impression. I just remember thinking "so what?" at the movie.

Another that I just bought on Ebay is Paprika, supposedly a good scifi anime, I'll let you know. If you have any LSD make sure to take some before watching Paprika. I watched it last night and now I understand what you meant! SciFi is my favorite type of movies, I really enjoy movies like the Matrix, Dark city, Blade Runner, Inception and the likes but I have to admit that this one was very weird even for me!
