Is that the one with Tick Tock? I think I've seen about 5 minutes of it, years and years ago. Desperately wanted to see it when I was a kid, but I kind of figured it was probably no good.

Yes, with Tick Tock. It's definitely worth a watch, mostly because of the strangeness of it. Dated though, because the special effects just aren't very special when compared to today's standards.

Well, I've been watching through Deep Space 9, so dated sfx aren't a shock to me...

Worse yet, I've watched a few original series Doctor Who eps in the past few weeks.

Never seen Deep Space 9.

I used to be a Dr. Who fan that recorded all of the shows off of PBS. I've probably seen them all except for the 1 or 2 doctors at the end of the 1st series. Watching the first Doctor Who now would probably drive me batty.

The new series is well worth it.

Just finished re-watching Death Note. I actually did like the ending more the second time around.

I started watching InuYasha about a week ago and am up to disk 10 out of about 56 series disks and 4 movies. It’s mostly action with a little romance and comedy and likely to appeal to both male and female audiences. It started out with 4 episodes/disk but has recently dropped to 3. So far I really like it.

Once things settled down it’s presentation is similar to Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) in that it has one overarching plot line with episodes divided into 2 to several episode arcs and the occasional stand alone episodes. However, it differs very much from FMA by being much more character than just plot driven. I find this more appealing because it does two things FMA didn’t. I makes me care about the characters more and makes the story flow more fluidly. One more FMA comparison is InuYasha’s character which is somewhat cocky like Edward, however he’s routinely put in his place when Kagome says “Sit boy!”

The animation is colourful and mostly fluid but not the best ever. Shortcuts include reusing fight scenes and still shots with pans to simulate motion during fights. Also the female characters seem to mostly come in two varieties, those that look like Kagome and those that look like porcelain dolls. Some people complain that Kagome only ever wears her school uniform but without signature clothing you’d be hard pressed to tell the main female characters apart. Fan service is limited to Kagome’s school uniform and the occasional skinny dipping scene (nothing shown), so far always for comic effect.

The audio is 2.0 and it shows. The front soundstage sounds good with lots of panning and even characters talking from off screen sounding like their off screen (I’ve had to double check a couple times that I wasn’t running my wide speakers). However, there’s not much ambient stuff to be sent to the surrounds and no bass to speak of. The opening and closing music is some of the worst I’ve heard but the in-story music complements what’s on screen well.

So far it’s mostly light hearted entertainment with occasional darkness laying under the surface but no deep and “meaningful” stuff. I would rate this a B or give it 4 out of 5 stars up to this point, but I‘ll see if it can maintain that over so many episodes.

I’ve got to try watching DS9 again it‘s the only “Trek“ series I don‘t own. When it was first on it was a sort of love/hate thing for me. I liked the predominance of “alien” characters (Dax, Quark, Odo) but not so much the humans especially Jake. Did they learn nothing from the near universal fan hatred of Wesley Crusher. Also the fixed nature of operating from a station and the generally darker theme didn’t fit with what appealed to me about all the other Star Trek series. The Bajoran “question” seemed way to preachy and I completely lost interest when the Dominion showed up. Head to head I’ve preferred “Babylon 5” which having been made as a serialized story from the start was more cohesive with my friends and I calling the Star Trek version “Deep Sleep 9.”

I’ve completely lost interest in the new “Dr. Who” after the first season. To many changes of characters and the more “ongoing” vs several episode story arcs caused me to loose interest in trying to watch it weekly. I’m sure I’ll go back and see the all once they’ve run their course but after the first episode I still prefer any of the older versions.

Oh, the Dominion is when it starts getting good, although they did start setting up the main story arc early. And Jake doesn't go the Wesley route, although I think that's what the writers were envisioning at first.

I’m sure I’ll have a better appreciation for the Dominion story line when I get a chance to watch it all at once rather than one episode a week. I much preferred “Babylon 5 when I got a chance to watch most of it straight through. Though I’ve still only seen the first 3 seasons.

I was just thinking of another thing I remember not liking about DS9 was Capt. Sisko. Even Janeway had more balls than him.
