Brian, you can get an excellent unit for less than that if you go with the Onkyo 709 factory refurb for about $420 from Accessories4less .

Looks good. 0.08 harmonic distortion as opposed to Pioneer's 0.05. I doubt if that relates to anything audible, but don't know. Same wattage as my Pioneer. Not new, that's the only thing that worries me at the moment. It's those little things that go out over a couple of years, like the RCA jack that may be ready to go out on a refurbished unit, is another worry. Dealing with shipping units that are defective if I have to return it and doing without a receiver in the meantime. That's what makes places like Best Buy look good. It's not all about the price. I'd rather pay twice as much, if I can deal with less hassle and future down time. I'll have to give this some thought. If I had bought an extended 3 or 4 year warranty for the Pioneer, this wouldn't be an issue.

Distortion numbers of that magnitude are far below audibility. When playing music a figure beyond about 1% may begin to become significant.
Factory refurbished units have been said to be more reliable than brand-new ones. Both theory and personal experience lead me to agree.

With Electronics it's a complete crap shoot... Right now my processor, and all of my amps are used/referb. 2 of my amps were built in the 90's... They are all going strong, one was serviced before i bought it... However, when i buy a brand new piece of electronics.. I almost ALWAYS get the 1 in 1,000,000 that fails... So, i almost always buy electronics used, not due to economics, but due to my crappy luck... Even my laptop, i bought used from a buddy.... Call a local electronic repair shop, they can solder a new RCA connector on your receiver for you.

I know some people have had better luck here on this board but all my friends with Harmony models seem to be replacing their remote at least once year due to total failure or screen issues or the buttons starting to act flaky.
Harmony lovers flame away but recently just bought only my second URC remote since since 2006 and I am very tough on them. It's a wonder my first one ever survived my old dog's constant coffee table cleaning with his tail. As soon as you pick one up you can feel the difference in the build quality. Maybe not as easy to program as the Harmonys but once that is done, it's done and my latest was actually very easy to program.
Just my opinion that I thought I'd share. We all like to critique technology so sometimes it's nice to give credit where credit is due.

Call a local electronic repair shop, they can solder a new RCA connector on your receiver for you. If it were that easy, I would have already done it myself. I took the cover off, thinking all I had to do was solder a new RCA plug, but it was buried in a stack of cards, that were all soldiered together. Not a simple task.

The Denon avr3312c looks like a good unit. Anyone have any long term experience with this one?
