Hello All,

So I bought a pair of 2nd hand QS8 off the Bay for $345.
I got them yesterday and they took some damage during shipping.
I've checked all the cones and they appear to be in good working order. Still stiff with no visible signs of abuse.
The seller has offered a $50 discount on the units.

Need two inputs please from the people in the know.

1 - Looking at the pictures can anyone tell which version they are?

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/26125279/Speaker%20Photos%2021%20Feb%202013.zip

2 - Opinions on should I keep them? Any chance there is significant internal damage. How sturdy are these?
I don't want to opened them up unless I keep them.

Appreciate the help. smile

Doesn't look too bad. You should be able to tell the version from the labels on the back of the speakers. If they don't say v2, then they're tis.

I doubt there's internal damage, but the banged corner plus the broken off pegs would be enough for me to send them back. That's a lot of money for busted up stuff.

Thanks for the feedback Ken

There is no version numbering that I can see.
Label at the back just says Q8S

Might be silly question but I don't understand your last comment...

If they don't say v2, then they're tis.

What is 'tis'?

I'm trying to see if I can get new grill holders.
The banged up corner I can live with but rattling grills will drive me insane. Using them with no grills is not an option.

I've sent an email to Axiom to see if I can get some new grill holders.

Thanks for the feedback.

Looks like screws were put in the place where the grill holders were. Grill holders might not fit in the holes anymore. I'd probably send them back.

Nah, those aren't screws. Those are just the remaining part of the grille holders. The round tops snapped off and it even looks like the rest of the grille holder is still in the grill frame.

Ti, as in Titanium. That's what the model before the V2 revision was called.

no way in hell i'd accept those speakers. tell the shipper to take his $50 and shove it! send them back. they don't look like they were packed worth a damn.

if i didn't know any better i'd think they were damaged before shipping. too bad when you ship them back you can't include a well packed can of whoop ass for the seller that goes off after you get your cash back!

frak'n fleabay!

Agreed. You paid way too much for them to be beat the hell like that. It is clear that they just flopped around inside the box and that is due to the seller's poor packing. I mean really. If nothing else, he could have filled the space with crumpled up napkins taken from McDonalds if he was too cheap to not buy a newspaper for a couple of bucks or bubble wrap. No excuse.

they look V2 I'm sure that if you send the serial number to customer service, they will be able to track down wich version it is.

Thanks all for the feedback.

FYI-
I got a reply from Brent at Axiom and they don’t stock those grill holders any more. PE might have some suitable alternatives but going to send them back to the seller anyway.

Good for you, they are beat to rat anyway! You're better off saving for a new pair. The v3s are well worth it, used speakers are something you should see and hear before getting them.

I think you taught us all a lesson.....Thanks for sharing! smile

The damage is to the top corner. If mounted up high, you will most likely never see it. I would still hook them up - if they sound ok, offer the guy $200. I would probably keep them for that. Even the old Q's sound great!
