instead of waiting on the onkyo 801 to go on sale, whay not just get the 701?? there are only 2 main difference between the two.. one, the 801 has the net card, which allows you to hook directly to yor computer and play music.. and 2, it is 7.1, and the 701 is only 6.1.. now , unless you are going to hook your computer up to your receiver, then essentially the 701 will be just as good. they havbe the same amount of watts, dsp modes, inputs/outputs, and same great remote.

you might wanna look at the 701 and 801 specs side by side, and you might be surprised how similar they are..

i have the 701, and it is awesome.. no probs, awes0ome remote, and easy to follow manual.. you cant go wrong with either decision, but for $429 bucks on macmall.com, the 701 is a total steal!!

hrrrm, looks like I need to make a quick call back to ecost tomorrow. I took it for granted when the CSR told me it was over 40 lbs, when tech specs place it at under 28. There will probably be another reason, but the reason the CSR gave me was wrong.

bigjohn...that is absolutely true, but I think that NetTune feature on the 801 is the reason I am holding out for it. I like the idea of being able to tune into the internet radio stations and play the mp3's off of my PC.

Plus I have time to wait. I just started construction on a new house and probably will not be moving in until about October. Until then I am patiently waiting to go ahead and get the factory outlet Axioms and maybe catch a good deal on a receiver.

I have some pics of my construction if anyone wants to check it out. I can post a link. Thanks for the advice though bigjohn...if the 801 doesn't work out, it will wither be the Onkyo 701 or Denon 2803.

thats cool.. i had/have no intentions of ever hooking up to the computer, so the nettune was not a factor for me. but, its all about what YOU need, so if the 801 is for you, then go with it.

as far as the ONKYO name itself, i think they have some great quality equip. you wont be disappointed there.

please keep us informed of your progress, and of course, pics are mandatory

Jason, listening to internet radio is also very important to me since when I'm at the computer I'm almost always listening to music streamed by classical stations from all over the world. However, this doesn't necessarily have to be a crucial factor in picking a receiver. None of my receivers have a USB input port, so I use a HiFi-Link(Xitel.com)which takes the digital output from my computer's USB output port, converts it, and feeds audio input ports on one of my receivers. It's available in both stereo(about $40) and multi-channel(about$80)versions. Something to consider.
