M80 v4 Floorstanding Speakers
Rated 5.0 Stars Based on 80 Reviews.
I must start that I am an audiophool (and I must add with no unlimited budget) since I was in pretty much in high-school. The speakers, generally, are the most subjective part of any system IMHO. Getting back, I've listened to systems worth more than my house - in awe - knowing that if I do not win the lottery I'll never have them and I've listened to systems worth tens of thousands that sounded way below my expectations. First, my system consists of two power conditioners and filters - one Monster HDP1800 separate for the sources, a Marantz TT15S1 turntable with a Clearaudio Virtuoso MM cartridge with a Yaqin MS12B tube phono preamp (non-stock tubes) and a Yaqin SD32A tube CD player with modified tubes and another power conditioner for the power section: a Parasound Halo P3 preamplifier with two Parasound Halo A23 amps used as monoblocks (400W / channel). Not a really high end system by any means but I think a decent one. I did experiment extensively, especially with the sources, as IMHO the sources are the most important thing in any system - "garbage" will result only in "amplified garbage". Now the speakers...I am replacing two German manufactured speakers (more expensive than the Axioms but less power) that made any recording sound good. I was afraid in the beginning to order online as you cannot listen to them anywhere, but the in-home is the real deal because you get to hear them in your room with your equipment. That being said, they sounded very flat at the beginning and I was a little bit disappointed...But after putting them in place, on their spikes, and letting them "run-in" or "break-in" as you wish, for about 20 hrs I got the best sounding speakers I ever had...I know there is a debate about break-in ASO but I got in my opinion a definite improvement after a while. I realize that these speakers (at least for only stereo listeners) are not for everyone, they are "transparent" (I am not into the audiophool lingo), they are very natural sounding but they are merciless to bad recordings. But... OMG with good recordings you will hear things on a familiar tune that sound different and much better in my opinion. These are definite keepers...The sound is balanced between the instruments and the speakers really come alive when "natural" instruments are played...I would recommend these to anyone, I think they're really hard to beat in this price range (and some...)
very satisfied customer, great service
Great service and delivery. I'm happy to find out why there are few Axiom speakers on the resell market.
I am using a pair of recently purchased Axiom M80s in a very large room, and they do an excellent job of filling the area with a robust, true sound. In fact the sound is better at 30 feet from the speakers than at 10 feet. The speakers have very nice dynamics which were not evident at first but are becoming more evident as they break in. At first they seemed noisy, but now after several weeks they are crisp and clear. They have excellent highs and lows. I'm still waiting on the mid-ranges. Overall, an excellent pair of speakers for the price.
I read a lot of good reviews. The price was amazing compared to the speakers they compare too. I am a first time buyer of Axiom audio products. I have now 3 speakers and love them. The sound clarity coming from these speakers is just amazing. I have been looking for this sound for years.
I currently own the vp 150 center and m22 for my living room and now I own the vp180 center and the m80 towers for my home theater. I have to say that axiom speakers have the best sound quality of all the speakers I have tested. It's possible I just prefer the sound over other speakers but you can tell they are built with quality. The vp180 center speaker was a huge upgrade to my theater, the clarity of the sound is amazing.
The M80HP's are amazing - the bass response is deep and crisp, the mids and highs are clear, and easy to listen to, at all volume ranges (from very low to wall shaking). The music is uncoloured and clean - from rock all the way down to minimalist music, the reproduction is honest and unstrained. And, last, I have the custom wood finish, and the workmanship is flawless - they are a great looking speaker.
What can I say? I love Axiom speakers! I am a research fanatic, and like many consumers I put in the time to get the most for my money. I take my music listening very seriously (I only listen to music, I don't own a TV) and have considered MANY other brands of speakers. Each time I have moved up to bigger speakers I have considered all the options and I always come back to Axiom. I am absolutely thrilled with my new M80s, they are everything I imagined they would be and more! And I really appreciated being able to get a real wood finish through your auction site for a great price (I love the Outlet as well), something I might not have otherwise spent the extra money for. Now that I see how beautiful they are with the real wood I would never go back! One thing I will say is there may be a market for a larger stand mounted speaker from Axiom. I am not afraid to mention that I have turned MANY people on to Axiom speakers, who are now proud Axiom owners, including several members of my family (too bad you don't give commissions!). The reason I mention the stand mounted speakers is that my Dad's living room does not have a good set-up for floor standing speakers, as there is a couch in the way. I think there are others who might be interested in a larger, heavier speaker that sits higher up off the floor, like with integrated stands? So that the drivers will not be obstructed by a couch or other furniture. I can tell you one thing, after my Dad hears my new M80s I think he may consider a total living room make-over so they'll work at his house! Ha, but again, he probably won't do it because of the way his space is set up. I see you are doing amazing things with your new floor standing models, how about a new flagship stand mount? In terms of pure enjoyment and improving my quality of life, dollar for dollar my axioms - all the different models I have owned over the years - have been equal to the best investments I've ever made, period.
What can I say that hasn't been said by everyone already? The Axiom M80s have amazing clarity, dynamic range, and tone separation, at any power level I've ever seen fed into them. I have had mine for a few days now, and have already been spoiled to the point where I'm replac ing other components that aren't at the same level -- with the first upgrade being a high-end sound card for my media center PC.
I purchased the Axiom M80 towers, VP180 center, and QS8 surrounds to replace my Monitor Audio RS6 Silver 5.1 package. The service was excellent and delivery was extremel y quick. Unpacking these monsters was a treat all by itself, but once I got them wired up and running... the sound was incredible. The soundstage was drastically improved upon and the detail was amazing. I could not be more pleased with my purchase. I auditioned many speakers prior to pulling the trigger on the Axiom product and I would say the Axioms outperform competitors in much higher price brackets. With ease. Well done Axiom!!!!
I''m not expert in using adjectives to describe sound, so I''ll start with this. The M80''s are the best speakers I have EVER owned. PERIOD. The clarity, soundstage, bass...everything just blows me away. The M80''s destroy my last pair of speakers in the bass department. But it''s tighter and cleaner while having that "chest pound" feel when you want it. This is especially apparent on the "club hits" I tested yet. Unfortunately they were mp3 which also brought me to another revelation with these speakers. The M80''s are INCREDIBLY revealing. The customer service was amazing and the build quality seems very efficient and solid. Highly recommended. Well done Axiom! You have made a believer out of me.
Recently got my M80s. The first word to describe is ''great musicality''. It is never tiring to listen to a complete cd when the sound is perfect and this is what I get with the M80s. Many guys are into searching for the flaw, listening to what is missing in the music, usually this is the type of person who is changing music all the time. With the M80s, you get a flawless sound, really great, tight and powerfull bass (not boomy), beautiful midrange sound. If you are a music lover like me, from classical to jazz and good old rock, the M80s will serve you well. Strop searching you found it. Claude, Montreal, Qc
I owned a pair of axiom speakers years ago so when I was in the market for some reasonably priced floor standers, Axiom was on the list I researched online. Every review I came across was positive so I looked further into getting a pair. The fact that they would be delivered to my front door for free definately entered into my decision. I was very satisfied with the whole process and now that I have my customized M-80's in place and rocking I am very glad I made the decision. The reviews were spot-on. Keep up the good work.
Delivery was awesomely quick. Great reviews, price, appearance. Can't think of anything to improve, except perhaps tossing you company's products out there using all the venues you can think of. You really have audiofile products at prices the average Joe would consider.
Been meaning to write a review for some time; purchased a pair of M80''s about 10 years ago and used them as ''mains'' in a home theatre system confined to a small room where they sounded wonderful but never allowed their full potentional. After some home remodeling the M80''s were moved to the living room in a stand alone stereo arrangement with a high end amp. The difference was astounding confined to music play alone. These speakers are likely the only product I have ever purchased in life that remain ''perfect'' in every aspect; they deliver superb sound quality and are beautiful to simply look at. If you are an average person who seeks suprerior sound, no matter what type of music you enjoy, the M80''s are within reach and could transform your music listening experience. If you love music like I do and use it as medicine to transcend life''s problems, I recommend investing in a pair of these speakers with a decent amp; for $2500 or so you can truly have one of life''s best benefits. Want to thank Axiom for continuing to strive for excellence.
Top three reasons for buying Axiom: First and foremost is the unparalleled ratio of sound quality:purchase price; great customer service; great return and upgrade policy. Keep up the terrific work.
everything they are cracked up to be - I''m a fanatical audiophile with tastes running to B&W Nautilus and the like, and these punch at the weight of speakers that cost far, far more. They dig really deep into the bass, and they''re clear as a bell. If I''d paid four thousand for these in a store, I''d say I got superb value for the money. In fact, I have another pair of audiophile speakers that cost me six thousand, and they have nothing on these. Thanks for the great service. I''ll never let anybody I know buy any other brand.
This review has been long over due. Lots of research lead me to M80s. The moment I hooked them up, I was impressed more so than I have been listening to any other speakers. I started hearing notes and instruments in songs I have been listening to well over 15 years. Listening to these for the first time, I had this feeling of euphoria, it just felt great, experience was akin to getting a new pair of glasses and instantly seeing everything clearly. At this point I can''t seem to like any system I listen to except these speakers. Hope Axiom makes car speakers at some point, where I spend a lot time listening to music. Everytime, I come to your site and read the reviews, I feel great to be a member of the axiom customer club, you guys have truly made an excellent product.
About 8 years ago, I bought a pair of these speakers. Until just a few months ago they had always been the main speakers of the home theatre
My M80 V3's arrived in Melbourne, Australia on 30th January. All packaging was perfectly intact and the speakers in perfect condition. I would like to thank you for a very smooth transaction and exceedingly prompt shipping. I am using the speakers with a JLTi KT88 valve amp and I am stunned by the flawless transparency of the M80 V3's. Should you have customers in Melbourne, Australia who would like to listen to the speakers, you are welcome to give them my email address.
"Thought I'd share a little anecdote with you. A couple years back I finished my 5.1 setup with a (no offense meant here) HSU Research VTF3-MK2 Sub. The 5 surround speakers are M80, VP150, QS8. I started off testing the subwoofer using the included demo CD. There is one track on the CD that includes an organ playing as low as 16Hz. The track sounded excellent, beautiful bass extension, I could make out all of the bass (even the part I couldn't hear, but only feel) it sounded great. I played through it a few more times, turning the volume up a bit each time. I was very happy with the sound, but it never quite got as loud as I expected, especially at the very lowest notes. It was then that I realized, that the HSU sub, wasn't receiving a signal. It was the M80s performing the bass extension, powered only by the internal amps on the Denon 3806 that was blowing me away all the way to the 16Hz organ notes. Once I got the sub signal fixed, the crossovers tuned correctly and levels set, I was able to get the extreme volume I was looking for and it blended beautifully with the M80s bass extension. I'm still amazed to this day how well the M80s performed with deep bass on relatively low power. Great work Axiom. Cheers,"
Outstanding speakers for an outstanding price. I had a pair of Cabasse MT3 Jersey before. Good 2 way speakers but weak bass (56Hz at -3dB) and the midrange become confused with a high volume of heavy bass music (because the same woofers has difficulty managing the midrange and bass at the same time). On these speakers, midrange remain clear regardless of the volume and the presence of bass does not stifle the rest of the spectrum. Many details, wide soundstage and no coloration. It's true hifi (high fidelity). So, beware of bad recordings, they will be even more inaudible but it's the price of fame. A speaker that "improves" the records do that with coloration (slightly less treble and bump in the midrange). It is no longer the Hifi... It is a choice to do consciously at the time of purchase. I chose neutrality.
"Just one word. Wow!!! Looks, sound, service, all just Wow!!! What amazing speakers... Thank you...."
"Great price, fantastic sound, Canadian made!"
"Your speakers are excellent value for the money. I've actually been recommending these m80's left and right and everybody that listens to it are just astonished. One friend describing the music said "it's just ...." and then couldnt describe it adequately and said "just there. Just right." The other one who is a drummer and very critical said "I havent heard such realistic drum reproduction anywhere." And this was running off a lowly ps3. When I move to a bigger house, I shall buy your portable seismic device , the ep800"
"Good quality, great prices, and I like doing business with people that care! I haven't been using the speakers for long, but as of today I'm totally in. The next thing in my list is to replace my Bose HT. Thanks a lot, I'm having a wonderful experience and I think we'll do business for a long time."
"I am the owner of m60's that are good. The m80's are an improvement beyond my expectations. The customer service and delivery were outstanding both times. Your passion keeps you striving to be the best in my opinion. I can usually find some constructive criticism about a company or product. Axiom is doing things right. It reminds me of a small restaurant with great food that few people know about, versus the "large chain" that sell mediocre food, that a lot of people patronize, thinking their getting a good value. They couldn't be more wrong."
"I've been enjoying the M80s quite a bit. I've had to work and do homework so I haven't really been able to sit plunk down and spend all day in audio nirvana. I have busted out all my old cds and I've been wowed with the improvement over my M22ti's. Consider me one satisfied (repeat) customer."
"Its been two months since I installed my M80s in my home in Panama, and I have not heard anything that sounds better. They are definitely the very best for the money."
I've been listening to my M80s for about 5 weeks and can confirm that they fully live up to their reputation. The sound quality is stunning, providing audio that is both rich and detailed without any harshness or overemphasis. I use these for music, movies and gaming and can attest to outstanding performance across the board. The VaSSallo wood option looks nicer than anything I auditioned at a retail outlet. The larger build of the M80s really shows off the high quality materials and craftsmanship. If you value exceptional looking speakers that match your living space, this option is worth every penny. And as always, Axiom's customer service was top notch. The personalized treatment you get is unbeatable. Ultimately, I can't speak of anyone else's set up or room acoustics. But in mine, these speakers unquestionably validate all of the praise out there. I am definitely happy with this purchase. Brian S., DC
Yes, I got the speakers, and love them. I am very impressed by Axiom, in the professional way you handled the order - it was first class all the way. All the best Yes, I got the speakers, and love them. I am very impressed by Axiom, in the professional way you handled the order - it was first class all the way. All the best PS, you may use me as an endorsement. I certainly shall tell my friends.
It's like I'm hearing music for the first time.
JC and all Axiom Audio personnel: I received my pair of Milenium 80 Ti Tower speakers on March 24th/05 at 13:00hrs. At 15:40 I completed cleaning and connecting my system to my speakers and turned it on. 30 years ago I bought my first stereo system, and when I tested it I had this feeling of total amazement and pride. Over the years I replaced certain components and speaker parts, to keep this original feeling I have for my system. In the past few years my speakers just did not satisfy my ears to the quality sound I enjoyed before. So when I decided it was time to invest in replacement speakers, my search led me to Axiom Audio and when I learned that I could get a 30 day trial period to decide if liked them, I said why not. I did not need 30 days to test them. Within 30 minutes after testing all my components, my feelings that I experienced 30 years ago re-surfaced, only this time magnified 100 times! The reviews I have read about your speakers, do not do the justice they deserve. They are absolutely incredible!!! You people deserve the most praise anyone could attain in the audio world. Thank you all for satisfying my listening ears!!!
Dear Axiom Audio, Christmas came early to our house when the M80s arrived. I am rediscovering our entire CD collection, and finding how much I love listening to music on a clear powerful set of speakers. The kids are telling me to "Turn down that music". The entire house sings, I can even hear them clearly in the shower. Here's listening to you
I received my pair of Axiom Millennia M80 Ti loudspeakers several weeks ago and was immediately impressed by the physical construction of them. A solid almost seamless enclosure, I say enclosure because while anyone can build a speaker box, at Axiom, their unique Anti Standing Wave" design truly sets them apart. They contained the most state of the art dual 6.5" and 5.25" pure aluminum drivers, dual 1" titanium tweeters and finished off with gold plated connection terminal posts for the best possible signal transfer. The fit and finish of these speakers makes other companies pale by comparison. While still in awe of the physical aspects of these units, I proceeded to hook them up to my home theatre system. Once in place, (placement for these units is not at all difficult I found that 18" - 20" away from the wall worked very well) I found a few of my favorite movies and proceeded to give these speakers a run through the gambit over the next several days. As I watched and listened I was surprised (pleasantly) to find that I was hearing undertones and ambient sounds that were previously missed by my old loudspeakers. I was also surprised to discover that from the lowest to highest volumes I was unable to create any distortion or dead air hum. Axiom rates the M80Ti at 4 ohms, 400 Watts and 98 dB 1w/1m (in-room efficiency), I would think that these numbers are fairly accurate and I had no trouble driving them with the Rotel amps in my system. With these 400-watt beauties fully powered and set up, I pulled out my system test C.D. With bright, sharp and clean precision, the screaming guitar of Joe Satriani, the digital electronic grunge metal of White Zombie and some extreme sound effects came to existence within the walls of my living room. The M80Ti's sound is that of a balanced harmony. With all the highs, mids and bass complementing each other and working together to create a soundstage that is clean, crisp and clear. Not only do these loudspeakers sound great and look good, but also the R&D people at Axiom have seemingly mastered the dilemma of the phase shift as you move across the field of sound. (Move from left to right in front of the speaker system). The over all resolution and imaging of the M80Ti's is, in my opinion Unrivaled. Having used and tested loudspeakers from many different companies Mission, Paradigm, PSB and Bose to name a few each of these companies has a loud speaker that will compare to the Axiom M80Ti. However if you do your research you will find as I have, (It only took me years) that for the price, the Axiom speaker Company has produced a top quality product for the audiophile, at a price that I can only call a great deal.
Your audio experience will change dramatically upon plugging your speakers in for the first time. The vocal soundstage is thrust forward more so than the rest of the musical experience ?though some (present company included) will argue that a more ?personal? presentation is developed. If you enjoy sitting down and listening to vocals, the M80?s will present a unique experience that is particular to Axiom and no one else bar none."
I can't say enough about how much I appreciate the quality and sound of the M80ti speakers. After carefully hooking them up to my system I played a Nippon Grammophon LP of the Charles Lloyd Quartet recorded live at a concert in Tokyo (during the late 60's)on my SL-10. The sound from the M80ti's surpassed everything I heard during numerous visits to listening rooms and demostrations at Best Buy, Soundtrack, Circuit City, etc. auditioning speakers from other manufacturers. I did not need to or use any of the amplifer's sound contour controls as I had to with my old Bose 601s to get any resembance to "live" or "realistic" sound! The M80TI's are amazing speakers at an amazing price!!!!
We just received the speakers on Friday. I can tell you I was a bit uneasy with all this because the whole idea for purchasing your speakers was mine, I recommended them to my brother so? And the thing was that we would never have the chance to listen to them prior purchasing them, and with speakers that?s really something tricky. I mean you got to have a lot of faith in the company to buy some speakers without ever listening to them. But thankfully, as I have expected, they we?re all I was hopping for?and then more. I got to say that I was playing with advantage in this bet I made, as the price is really unbeatable, and the fact that the speaker has that impressive array of cones, and also being them of aluminium, that the guys at the local home cinema shop tell us that they are the most bass giving material for a cone (we never have enough bass). I knew that the tower must have a deep powerful bass but I was concerned you know about the mids and high frequencies and if that bass would be just distortion or a controlled one. I mean it would be hard for me you know, if the speakers ended up sounding not good enough for our expectations, as after all I had come up with the idea and all, I would be held totally responsible for any fiasco. But after much test, the speakers came out outstanding in all respects. Excellent in bass mid and high. They can give you a subtle acoustic guitar, ultra clean vocals, while at the same time rock you with a real powerful heavy metal distortion. And that's not that easy to find. Oh! And I love that cool leather like air exits! They behaved as expected in every respect. I love them! I think they beat many speakers of other brands at more than double the price, and that?s saying something with all the competition that there is out there these days. My brother is really happy with them so I?m happy too. So congrats from a pair of satisfied customers. These things rock!
I was pretty thrilled myself. The M80ti sound GREAT !Thanks,
Speakers arrived in perfect condition. I thought the 50s were good. The 80s are awesome. I will not be sending the 50s back however. I found another spot in my home where they are perfect. thanks for the great service and top quality products.
I just wanted to drop a short note to say that I really appreciated the fast delivery of the speakers. The build quality and sound of the two M80ti's is so far impressive. I will definitely recommend to my friends who are looking in a similar price range, and I expect to purchase more of your speakers as we add audio throughout our home. Thanks, and best of luck as your company continues to grow.
Auditioned B&W6S3 and B&W604S3. Those speakers were not even close to Axiom M80ti. Decided to give Axioms a try. Very detailed and perfectly balanced. Very clean sound. Can be compaired to Vienna Acoustic and other speakers within the price range starting $7,000.00 and above! The customer service is EXCELLENT! Thanks for these great speakers! Own them for 3 month and after 3 month they sound even better.
They arrived in good shape. I'm very impressed by the sound. The bass has a timbre I've never heard before. I running these speakers with McIntosh two MC501 monoblocks amps. These will diffently be keepers.
I received my order today, and couldn't wait to get the speakers set up. I have to tell you that I spent several hours sitting and enjoying the amazing sound! Your speakers are everything I expected, and a lot more. I still can't believe what a bargain this system is, and what an improvement it is over my previous speaker system. I just wanted to say thank you. I know where I'm going to direct anyone who's looking for new speakers, and I expect I'll be back again when I'm ready to upgrade again.
All I can say is, "Wow"! For the service, but mostly the product. Outstanding discretion, clarity, definition and punch.
Speakers arrived in perfect condition although the exterior boxes took a beating. Soundwise, very impressive soundstage, wide, high, and deep. I especially like the resolving power of these speakers to differentiate instruments and vocals. I'm running Parasound Line Drive 1500 preamp, and a Carver TFM 45 amp as this is my personal office system. Sounds every bit as good as some $30,000 systems I've looked at. I like them so much, I'm buying a sub woofer from you guys next week. What could be a better compliment than that? Thank you again. Check us out at www.studionovaimages.com
All hooked up and sounds wonderful - we made a good purchase.
Thank you very much, I did indeed receive it and every thing is perfect. Please note that I will not be using your 30 day money back warranty as I am VERY satisfied with my purchase, those Axiom M80ti are unbelievable. The box was damage when I have received it but the content was complete and intact, without a single scratch. If it hadn't been from my neighbor, I would have been staring at the speakers all night without being able to listen to them as I had no receiver to use with them. Finally my neighbor saved the day by bringing 2 Marantz MA-500 the same product I will be purchasing soon and I hooked up my Nomad MP3 player to test it and was VERy VERY impressed by the quality of the sound. So was my neighbor that currently own a Anthem AVM-20, Anthem PowerAmp, Paradigm 2 x Monitor 9, 2 Monitor 7, matching center + Sub. and has much more experienced with Audio and said that I had bought a very good product for the money I paid and that he might be reconsidering is future purchase of Paradigm Reference Studio 100, not bad eh? Oh I forgot to mention that I did this setup while my wife was away for the evening and she knew the money I had spent which to her was a lot of $$$. I thought I would be killed when she got home... But instead, we sat on the couch from 11pm to 1am to listen to a bunch of great songs which were perfectly rendered by the M80ti. She had never listened to music this way before and was very impressed and I am still alive to talk about it. I even mentioned about how I would build my other zones in the house with your other lines of speaker :-) All in all I am very pleased with your product and am looking forward to completing my setup to include more speakers and buying my Receiver and my PowerAmp. I will not hesitate to brag to my friends of the quality of the M80ti and make sure to test my audiophile friend's knowledge of sound quality. Also would like to put in a good word for Jean-Claude who was involved in trying to track me down (even on a Sunday) to help me with my order since I had problems with the ordering online system. Thanks again, A satisfied, sleep deprived, customer.
Thank you very much for the prompt delivery of my speakers with such exellent packing. I must tell you that your speakers overall quality are absolutely mind-blowing! :-) I am VERY HAPPY! You can be sure that I will be telling my friends about it, and that I'll be buying more stuff from you in the future. Keep up the wonderful job of making such world class speakers at an affordable price. Kudos to your team! If you have a newsletter please do add me in the distribution list. I can't believe the other speakers of comparable quality are being sold for more than twice the price...what a rip-off!
Thanks again for your helpful and prompt advise. Just set up my M80's this weekend and I am really enjoying them! You guys are tops in speakers and customer service!
I was pleasantly surprised that the order arrived on thursday (less than 24 hours after it was shipped!)...of course I lost a day because I couldn't stay away from the sound system for any length of time?
I play mostly jazz. These speakers for the price, are outstanding ( and this is after barely 1 hour of play). Way better than the B & W 600 series, and a notch below their outstanding 700 series, which retails for $3000/pair.
They sound wonderful Brent.... After only a few hours of burn in they started sounding good and the imaging is spectacular.......I now know made the right decision in going with the M-80's. Great product and even better customer service.....hard to find these days. Thank you Brent and Axiom!!!!!!
I can't overstate how pleased I am with the M80 speakers. I didn't realize how much of the soundtrack I was missing. I'm delighted with the way they handle music, too. In addition, I couldn't have asked for better service & turn around time. You did a great job of packaging the speakers, too.
Straight out of the box, the speakers sounded great. After breaking them in for 80 hours or so, I am even more pleased. I bought the M80s to replace my Altec/Lansing Model 19 Studio Monitors and am surprised that speakers so small can do it. Congratulations on a fine product.
Brent, I already hooked them up and road tested them, they are GREAT. I researched and compared for over a year and I am not disappointed in my final decision. I will be adding to the system soon.
I bought a pair of Axiom M80 v2 five months ago after many months of research and auditioning various brands of speakers (prices ranging from $1000 to $3000). Decided to give Axiom a try and customer service was excellent before and after the purchase (I had a lot of questions, Thank you Brent). Axioms are absolutely amazing, and I agree with all the positive comments from other customers/reviewers and no point repeating. Even after buying the Axioms, for curiosity sake, I have done several comparisons (Speaker A-B switch gets a good work out), and I have to say nothing has even come close to beating the Axioms. Recently had to replace a faulty mid-range driver, and the new one was at my door in 2 days and the customer service was as if I had bought a $10,000 speaker. Probably have spent about that much trying different speakers over the years, but hard to imagine even a $10,000 speaker being any better than the Axiom M80s.
The M80's are in for a hard life ... but apparently so are my ears. These speakers should be 3x's the cost for the quality
Amazing Sound !!! I just got the M80s installed...I have no words to describe the sound quality. The sounds like a pais of $ 5000 ++ speakers. Great Sound !
I'm giving an updated review of my Axiom M80s. So I've had these speakers for over six months. They just keep getting better and better. They're great for music and just astounding for home theater use. You don't really need a subwoofer, the bass is that rich, and you don't need a center channel (the imaging on vocals is tack sharp. As a comparison, my girlfriend and I keep looking for something to compare these speakers to. We went to Best Buy, and went into their special "studio" to hear some $2600/pr Martin Logans. The Axioms in everyway blew them out of the water. Martin Logans vocals were scratchy, imaging was good but not great, the whole high end was hissy, didn't matter what the source material was. The Axiom lower octaves were vastly superior too. Then we listened to a pair of Klipsch towers. I hear good things about Klipsch. For $1300, the Klipsch speakers were mickey mouse all the way. Good imaging, but no bass whatsoever and so-so mid-range. Do yourself a big favor and buy a pair of these speakers. Listen for a month and let the tweeters settle in. Insanely smooth crossover. Our next mission we're going to audition some $5,000 plus speakers, because nothing under $3,000 even comes close to the M80s.
These are the best speakers I have ever heard. Forget those so called luxury speakers that you have to pay an arm and a leg for. These speakers are the real deal. Every aspect of the sound emitted from these speakers is perfect. I have crystalline highs, amazing mids, and house shaking bass. When listening to music, the vocals are just awe dropping, its like the person is right there in the room. Explosions in call of duty shake my room so much my parents tell me to turn it down. Don't worry, these speakers sound amazing even at the lowest level of volume. The 12 combined drivers really deliver the full life of music. If you want the best possible speaker out there, buy this. I have been burned 1000s of dollars by the so called jargon of expensive speakers that costs 3 times more.
Have had the M80's for a few weeks and they have been everything I bargained for. Paired with a Denon 3808 these things produce some wonderful sound. I was really surprised by the bass these speakers produce. So far I'm very happy with the purchase given the price and performance.
WoW! At first I thought the midrange was a little bright compared to my old speakers. Now after listening to the M80's a few months I realize it was because my old speakers were so dull in the midrange. I am hearing sounds in my music I never heard before. These speakers rock!
I've had my M80's for years now and couldn't be happier.. Great full bodied sound, used for both movies and music, perfectly voiced to my VP150 and four QS8's..
Just got these twins and they have been worth their value and then some. When I first hooked them up and sat down to hear the performance with my sons, our faces & reaction was just priceless. My wife actualy thought the house was falling appart, that's how clear the opening seen of Master & commander sounded. The M80's have clearly brought back my interest to movies & music. Thank you Axiom.
first of all I must say, The microdynamiics are truly outstanding. i've tried just about every speaker lineup this company has. I started with the M-3's totally awesome for a small bookshelf...the sound level is awesome from a speaker of its size, from there I moved up to the M-22 again I was blown away....just lacking the bass I wanted, well because of the design all you need with that setup is a sub and you're good to go which is indeed my very next perchase. So my next perchase was the M-60's very clean well defined but lacked the volume levels I was now searching for...as i forgot to state to mention I'm now running a new onkyo 906...Well after recieving the M-80's with the 4ohm load spec's and the power these little giants can handle my home theater/concert hall is now great for me, I pitty the rest of my neighbor's as I have walked around my house and it's pretty loud...its everything i was looking for thanks again for your fine products and thank you to JC as he was very professional he helped me in every way of my current setup.... Received my M80 speakers today. For the first time ever, I heard a kick drum through a speaker the way it should be. Just a few months ago, I bought the M22tis. Great speakers, I have them on your stands paired with a subwoofer. I can't say enough about those speakers. I liked them so much I decided to bite the bullet and buy the M80s. The bookshelf speakers are going into my office. Now for the M80s. What can I say? At 20 watts they sing and fill the room. Bathing in the sound is about the best description. The vocals are awesome, and please, the bass goes down low enough. And the midrange is the best part of the speaker. Seamless crossover. There are so many great things about your speakers. They sound so open, the sound is not coming from them. They're beautiful quality, they sound unbelievable. These are my first floor-standing speakers, I've always had bookshelfs. If you love music, nothing beats these floorstanding speakers. They not only do sound great, but they work great in home theatres, so they do double duty. Get some, try them, they soar. My records sound amazing. The soundstage is tack sharp when I watch television, you don't really need a center channel speaker, the soundstage on these is so precise. I could go on and up, but these M80s just upped the ante. Plus I love no tax and free shipping. By the way, fedex got them all the way across the country in less than one week. I wish all stereo upgrades were a no-brainer like this. Tell me when you're selling the company, I'm buying...
With Axiom M80 speakers I have rediscovered Classical and Jazz music. The sound clarity and fantastic dynamic of this speakers make listening to my music a heavenly delight. Andreas
When I was a teen in the eighties, I bought a pair of AX2Rs. I had never heard of Axiom, but they sounded great for their price. Those speakers showed me parts of my music that I had never heard before. I loved those speakers for 20 years. Last year I bought a pair of M80 v2s. When I turn these speakers up, I understand why the knob is labeled "volume", rather than "loudness". Before owning these speakers, I didn't appreciate producers' contributions to my music, but now, they are another member of the band. I love these speakers and look forward to 20 years of excellent performance from them, as well.
Great Value & Sound reproduction. Have not been disappointed at all. Clear, non-coloring, just true music.
Back to the future, I finished testing my new system with the m80's as my anchors, all I can say is MY Gawd!!! The last time I heard music this good was 35 years ago with my first stereo system! I have spent the last 6 months listening to all manner & types of speakers and while I readilly admit there are more expensive speakers out there, I have NOT found ANY that are better! Pretty cocky statement you say, I say bring em on!!! Easily compares to speakers costing 2 to 3 times as much, I know, I listened. This is only my opinion, but for my money these are the BEST hands down! Russ B. N.J.
I thought you might like a little progress report on my home audition of the M 80s. In a nutshell, you wonderful folks at Axiom have increased the quality of my life by a significant degree. I have always loved music and I spend an awful lot of time listening to it. Now there's just more to love. I'm hearing new sounds in music I've been listening to for over 20 years. Being a drummer, I'm particularly elated at how well percussion is reproduced. For years I'd resigned myself to the notion that in recordings, drums are relegated to the background, shadowed by all the other instruments, and that's where they'll always be. Not anymore. Snares snap, crisp high-hats, reverberating cymbals, the tenor in tenor toms, and a real sweet spot kick from the bass drum. I'm happy. Then, from Bach to Hendrix, there are the strings. Ok, now you're not budging from your listening chair for the rest of the day. That's because you're right there, live at the recording. I never thought Jimi could sound any better. I'm thinking Ian used Electric Ladyland as a reference when he designed the M 80s. Another thing that strikes me is the way the speakers reveal the quality of various recordings; the title of an old Clint Eastwood film comes to mind. But that's not your problem. So, I'm afraid you're not getting these speakers back. And I may have just become an Axiom lifer. Thank you.
It's too bad more "audiophiles" don't give gear like this a chance - but maybe they don't want to admit that it will compete or beat their uberexpensive gear. I readily admit it - this kills my previous boutique speakers!
I must tell you all that I was amazed with what I was hearing from these speakers they are awesome, I can compare them with ones costing 10 times more. Not only do they?sound fantastic but looks great. I will be?sending Annie pictures of my?Home Theatre so it can be posted on the the Hall of fame section. I really love these speakers and I am so?glad that I choose Axiom. Thanks very much for all your help and I must say that I am Proud to be part of the Axiom Family. Thanks to all
Beautiful sounding speakers that can play insanely loud. Artists like Norah Jones and Jewel who have outstanding voices have never sounded better. Let them sooth your soul!!
One of the best sounding speaker's I have heard, period. Excellent midrange and highs combined with nice tight bass. The only draw back is the 4ohm load and a somewhat dated/boxy look. The vinyl wrap is second to none for a realistic finish.
Outstanding dispersion and imaging. Great clarity and details. Just as good at low volume as at high volume (and they can loud!). A bargain for the price.
I bought my first pair of M80's back in 2002 and was extremely pleased with their performance. I then had the opportunity to upgrade my speakers as I was putting together a Home theater system based on the boston cherry M80's that I had been using in my 2 channel system. I did look around a bit at other speakers as even as good as these are I know that there is better out there. It was just a question of how much more I would have to spend to get there. In the end I decided to stick with what I knew i would enjoy and bought another pair of M80's in the High Gloss cherry for my 2 channel system and am still a happy customer that probably says more about how much I enjoy these speakers than trying to describe their sound.
